Let's hope Wimbledon doesn't run over on Sunday

So, I guess this means we're going to continue to ignore the War Doctor and the second Tennant when numbering our Doctors. This will be 13 rather than 14 or 15.

It'd be marketing nightmare to rebrand the former Doctors to accomodate Moff's retcon, and in-story the Eleventh Doctor has been namechecked as such since his first series. And personally, I'd find it remarkably silly if they'd jumped from 12 to 14 or 15 just to avoid the "unlucky" numbering.

Very stylish ad.

This is one of the very few things in the universe that could conceivably have me looking at sports on a Sunday.

Considering that this new Doctor will Chiball's first doctor, who it is might give us some clues as to Chiball's vision for DW.

Possibly...but keep in mind that a lot of actors can surprise you at auditions. You may be assuming too much based upon their more well-known roles.

Will be interesting to see how Wimbledon's ratings are affected by people tuning in toward the end. LOL.

If they were doing it at the end of the British Grand Prix I'd have more chance of watching it as it airs...

I was not thinking of the actor's past roles but more the physical traits of the actor. Will the actor be a male or a female, young or old, etc...? Those physical attributes alone could give us some hints of what type of Doctor we might get. That is what I meant.

I've noticed some folks elsewhere complaining that it's being announced ahead of time instead of "the old days before the Internet" where we apparently would have found out by watching the regeneration episode. And completely ignoring the fact that most of the Doctors were introduced in press conferences well before the regeneration.

I grew up in Oklahoma watching Doctor Who on PBS until they couldn't afford the rights anymore. Through specials and magazines, I knew about Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy long before their episodes made it to this side of the pond, then made a left and found Oklahoma.

The only Doctor to not have been cast prior to his predecessor's regeneration was Pertwee, and that's why he wasn't in The War Games. Everyone else was publicly announced well before the regeneration episodes aired. Indeed, most regeneration episodes were even hyped in advance.

Yeah, I distinctly remember hearing the casting announcements of both Peter Davison and Colin Baker before they made their debuts (I was too young for the earlier ones and had lost interest by the time of McCoy).

Was there any particular reason for that or they simply hadn't decided on the new actor at that point.

McCoy is is the only one of the classic era Doctor I can really remember anything being said about the casting (recall that was some concern as his main claim to fame before Doctor Who was a stage act involving ferrets).

Can any one remember how the news came out of the casting of McGann? Iirc it did get some bigger coverage because it was going to be a tv movie etc etc.
