Like it or not, they are responsible for Trek's success last weekend.
I know we like to snicker at them because they don't know the difference between a warp core and an apple core, but they, not us, the nitpicky minority, made Trek's success possible.
Let's face it, science fiction is a niche genre. And individual 'verses (Trek, Star Wars, B5, BSG, etc) are niches among niches. For any sci-fi to succeed on any level is a victory for us. So giving the mainstream audience is due in my opinion.
Mainstream Audience, I know you don't come here, but if you just happen to be misdirected to this site, know this: We may collect the toys, the comics, the calenders, and the Hallmark ornaments, but it's YOU who made Star Trek the success it was and I hope you join us geeks this weekend to continue its success. This victory belongs to you, even if you don't know the difference between a Jefferies Tube and PVC tube. Thank you.
