Oh, I'm not gonna be pushy at all. However, as the 20-something college graduate in this shitty economy, I am pretty much an expert at job hunting. I just find it funny the huge gap there is in experience between me and my father (who you would think would have more experience in such an area). The student has surpassed the teacher...or something.

A few years ago i got into a little argument with my parents when i was job hunting.. i used mainly the internet to search for open positions and applied to quite a few companies via their online portal.

Easy, fast and very cost effective.. they way companies now operate.

This is what my parents didn't get.. last time my dad went job hunting was in the 70s and it consisted of him driving to the neighboring town to another company, going in to HR and asking for a job and he started the next day.

Older people often enough don't get that the times have changed fundamentally.. both how companies recruit people and how people apply for jobs. I listened to the outdated advice of my parents to avoid coming off as arrogant (granted.. some of their advice was still working but it was more general in nature) but then did my own thing and got a job.

Like what? Am I going to become the kicker for the Green Bay Packers or something? For me having a job in something I 'have a passion for' is a surefire way to kill said passion.

And this guy is still craving work after working as a manager of some sort? I honestly don't get it. Kick back, cash some social security checks, indulge in some hobbies.

There are people who tie their sense of self-worth to their job and I never understood that attitude.

Too much pressure in kicking, just look at Billy Cundiff. Dude shanked a cupcake and got cut even though the real culprit was the receiver who muffed the 3rd down play.

What you really need is to be the left handed specialist on a crappy team who comes in to get one guy out in the 7th inning. I'd be doing this right now if my fastball didn't top off around 60.

Cool attitude, bro. Older workers like RoJo's dad have a lot to teach us. Did you miss the bit where he has 30 years managerial experience? Or do you instantly dismiss all older workers as enemies of "the rest of us", whoever they are?

Yeah, you don't just reach a certain age become useless to the workforce. My dad has an awesome work ethic and is in great physical shape (the dude can still bench press more than me!). He's hardly some senile old man who's ready to be put to pasture. 60 is the new 40!

Though there are so many young people who can't get a job (I'm 21 and have had no luck for 5 years) and yet retirement ages are going up, which is almost like a stranglehold on an entire generation. It's a small problem and one of many with today's society. I apologise if my phrasing offended anyone, especially RoJoHen.
