lets cast historical figures.

I'm just saying that famous people (questionably or otherwise) are not necessarily going to ever be historical figures.

Is he still action movie history if he makes yet another film?

Being an actor (even a well known actor) does not make you a historical figure.

1.
the branch of knowledge dealing with past events.
2. a continuous, systematic narrative of past events as relating to a particular people, country, period, person, etc., usually written as a chronological account; chronicle: a history of France; a medical history of the patient.

3. the aggregate of past events.

4. the record of past events and times, especially in connection with the human race.

5. a past notable for its important, unusual, or interesting events: a ship with a history.

1. of, pertaining to, treating, or characteristic of history or past events: historical records; historical research.
2. based on or reconstructed from an event, custom, style, etc., in the past: a historical reenactment of the battle of Gettysburg.

3. having once existed or lived in the real world, as opposed to being part of legend or fiction or as distinguished from religious belief: to doubt that a historical Camelot ever existed; a theologian's study of the historical Jesus.

4. narrated or mentioned in history; belonging to the past.

5. noting or pertaining to analysis based on a comparison among several periods of development of a phenomenon, as in language or economics.

Define history.

Please.

A historical figure is someone who is dead (i.e. cannot exist in the present because then they wouldn't be historical) who has impacted the history of the world.

I'll give you an example:
John Wilkes Booth was a well known actor and celebrity in the mid 19th century (if he had died as such as wouldn't have been even a footnote in a history book and therefore not a 'historical figure' as he hadn't done anything noteworthy to impact history). But it wasn't until he assassinated President Abraham Lincoln that he was destined to become a historical figure, but even then he wasn't a historical figure until after he died and his story was added to the history books.

Not to mention that there's a considerable difference between the status of Aldrin and Bush and the likes of Van Damme or that sports editor previously suggested...

Yeah, I think if Yevetha had actually offered Aldrin as his historical figure, I probably wouldn't have had an issue with it, since he's borderline.

Van Damme qualifies as a living celebrity, but that's all. The editor of Men's Health doesn't even qualify as that much. Neither will ever be a historical figure given the impact they have thusfar had on history.

there are many histories.

History of literature, History of Action Movies or comedy, so on.

That's ridiculous.

If you're going to go that far, why not cast an actor to play yourself as there is a history of the TrekBBS. Who's going to play you in the movie that depicts you getting banned from the Star Wars EU site? "Travesty: The Yevetha sotry".

If you intended this thread to be recasting actors in the place of still living people in varying careers, you should have called it that. But the thread is titled: "lets cast historical figures."

'Historical figures' has a specifc definition, which has been explained several times.

Yeah, I'd define historical figures as people who have had a significant sociological impact, and it's why most historical figures end up being political figures like presidents. These are people that have made their mark in history for a reason, having earned their place in history books. Very rarely will anyone in the entertainment industry have that level of impact. Some people end up hugely popular for their day and have their fall from grace and never be heard from again. There are loads of people that history has forgotten, and that's proof positive in that some inventions are remembered while their inventors are not.

I'd disagree however that people necessarily have to be dead in order to be part of history or go into the history books. Buzz Aldrin I feel is one of those people as he's made his mark long ago, and I think he and other astronauts are already in the books.

As I said, even in my definition Aldrin is at the very least borderline and I wouldn't have even said anything if he was talking about casting Aldrin.

I however drew the line at Van Damme and the random editor of the random magazine he cast on the last page.

I take issue the following "historical figures":
  • Reihan Salam (a living political analist, not even celebrity)
  • Harlan Ellison (living science-fiction author/personality)
  • Ben Zoma (non-historical fictional character)
  • Dominic West (living contemporary actor) apparently cast as Ioan Gruffudd (living contemporary actor)
  • Steven Spielberg (this one is borderline, his saving grace is that he's an entrepenuer)
  • Gordon Michael Woolvett (another living contemporary actor) apparently cast as Alan Tudyk (yet another living contemporary actor)
  • Luke Skywalker (at this point I think Yevetha is doing it just to troll people)
  • Terry Farrell (living contemporary actress) apparently cast as Lara Flynn Boyle (another living contemporary actress)
Etc...

All I'm asking for is a little consistancy between your OP and title of the thread and and about two-thirds of the rest of the posts in this thread.

I like the above comparison. It works because not only does Mcdiarmid look a bit like Lieberman, but also because Lieberman has pulled some BS pretty comparable to a Dark Lord of the Sith.

I would change my OP if i could.
