Leonard Nimoy gets replaced in hypothetical fourth season.

It usually annoys me that TV series tend to feel the need to replace lead characters who leave, as opposed to tightening up by bringing an existing member of the cast into the spotlight. I can understand it on Stargate SG-1 because by the time it happened the four-member team was an iconic element in itself, but more often there’s already good character material waiting to be used. When the lead on Earth: Final Conflict left the show, that could have been an opportunity to unbrainwash Sandoval and make him the protagonist with a similar mission and motivation. On Stargate Universe, I’d have liked to see Greer moved up to command instead of having somebody called in from outside. Etc.

What about B5?? The main actor, Michael O'Hare was replaced with Bruce Boxleitner as Commander John Sheridan and the show took off across the stars!

Thing is Spock wasn't just the most popular one among the characters in TOS, he also was the only alien. So the show would have lost the interesting visual of Spock's ears and such.
Of course they would have felt the need to replace that.

I actually preferred O'Hare.

Apparently he kept hitting on Jerry Doyle's wife on the show and also had an amusing trip in Doyle's car one afternoon where he went berserk because of the music Doyle was playing and tried to turn it off because he didn't want any music today! But much later on it was revealed that he was suffering from a mental illness! I think he was replaced because the other actors found him difficult and his acting style wasn't what the producers wanted and after Bruce Boxleitner came on the show every box was ticked!

I haven't seen B5 since it originally aired so I'm way fuzzy on the details, but I remember O'Hare's leaving really screwing up a two-part storyline where Sinclair was supposed to be the mystery character, but they had to make it Delenn instead which made no sense at all. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

Sinclar was the one who was.
Delenn was the one is
Sheridan was the one who will be.

I loved Babylon 5. TOS is my favourite series of all time. B5 is my second favourite.

when David Duchovny stepped away from The X-Files, that show lost its groove too. It got boring.
Well it definitely got boring for you. For me, I thought The X-Files worked quite well without him because it took a turn through the perspective of Scully who was struggling with her faith and what she's discovered before and after Fox Mulder's abduction. The additions of psychic Monica Reyes and John Doggett was also interesting because of how interwoven they were with the US Government and the Syndicate lead by the Cigarette Smoking Man, they weren't aware how far down rabbit hole they were and was dumbfounded by the people they knew were part of the conspiracy.

It was clear the pre-born William was a major threat to everyone and these agents had to protect Dana Scully. I never cared for the alien stuff, but rather "The monster of Week" stories told by those creative writers, but the angle Chris Carter and Vince Gilligan set up about an abducted Mulder was compelling than what they've ever conjured up for that very boring alien conspiracy non-sense throughout its entire run, including the new batch of drivel from the recent incarnation.

That's it, thanks. I still think they intended for it just to be Sinclair to be the One, but had to scramble when he left the show.

The X-Files's monster of the week episodes were the best. That alien-government conspiracy storyline never went anywhere. You never felt like there was ever any payoff for the investment of watching it.

They may have a bit, but I'd hardly say it "screwed it up". I loved these episodes.

Nah: The X-Files COMEDY episodes were the best.

I felt the show jumped the shark after O'Hare left, and I'm quite sympathetic to the fellow, who had a rough time of it.

  • Dr. Blockhead : Did you know that through the protective Chinese practice of Tiea Bu Shan, you can train your testicles to draw up into your abdomen?

Fox Mulder : Oh, I'm doing that as we speak.
That line put me away the first time I heard it.
