Leonard Nimoy and death clock

HI All,

I was watching one of the Star Trek DVDs, it had extras on it. Behind the scenes with Leonard Nimoy. He was talking about his life after Star Trek and how he got into photography and showed off some pictures he'd taken for a book of his photographs. Before he goes into that he shows off what looks like a clock. He said it was a death clock and he said it tells you when you're going to die. I've heard of those things before, but I certainly don't want to have one around. I was a bit surprised he had one. But anyway he said what the time said on it. The segment was filmed around 2003, I was wondering how accurate the time frame on that clock was to when Leonard passed away.

Does anyone else know about this death clock he had? This was the first time I'd heard about it. He mentioned it in passing and then went into talking about his photography.
The extra is on the same disc as the episode "Assignment Earth." is on.

sorry if this is maudlin

An article on Nimoy's passing references a 2003 interview which quotes him saying:

“I’m considering an essay on the subject of time,” he said. “I’m in the final phase of my life. I’m told by actuarial tables that I have 5,642 days left to live.
“I’ve got myself a countdown clock that will tick down my days for me. I find it exhilarating to mark that time so that I use it, explore it and value it. If I’m conscious of it, I’m less likely to let it slip by unnoticed."

Oh.... I thought Nimoy meant Dethklok brought more meaning to his life. I was expecting a Nathan Explosion sort of perspective....

That interview was in February 2003, and 5642 days is ~15.45 years. So according to that clock, he was supposed to have lived to around mid-July 2018.

Too bad the clock was wrong, we would have had him 3 more years:wah:
