Ok,

I'm already tired of people whining about lens flare. Reminds me of people complaining about Battlestar Galactica and it's terrific moving camera work, especially in the groundbreaking Zo!c SFX.

I LOVE the flare! This is all part of the incredible cinematography this fantastic new film has. Something a lot of films lack. Films like every other Star Trek. This is the very first time, thanks to the new clip featuring Scotty (the fantastic Simon Pegg), where I felt like I was watching two characters step onto the bridge of a starship... as opposed to two actors stepping onto a frakin' movie set.

Look, in the past there was a real flatness to film, and especially TV. A lot of this had to do with the video technology and then digital, which can flatten the feel of the picture. The flare effect is created digitally, I suspect, and I for one love it as it provides a more realistic feel, not to mention dynamic zip!

That is all. :shifty:

Now that my attention has been drawn to them, I find them less distorting in the HD version of the bridge clip than in the smaller one. Perhaps that's why no one who's actually seen the film on a big screen has mentioned the lens flares as distracting.

Nonsense, this is just all further proof that JJ is the death of trek...

The entire movie is visually stunning and JJ has breathed new life into ST. My 20 year old niece who has never seen a ST movie and she loved it too.

The lens flare is retarded. Is it a deal breaker for me? Of course not. It is rather annoying though. Why wash the actor's faces out in a bright blinding light every few seconds? We've got a tense scene on the bridge, I want to see the actor's faces.

Do we really need Yet Another Thread about Teh Lens Flare? I'm inclined to think we've got that pretty well covered already. Do we need one about the ranting about the lens flare? No, I really don't think we do.

Plum has now (I hope, anyway) gotten the need to expound on that out of his system, so why don't I just close this? :)
