LEGO Movie 2

Well I don't know about everyone else, but I certainly enjoyed the first LEGO Movie, I felt it was rather delightful with wonderful humor and very insightful and interesting commentary. I've recently just seen this trailer for Part 2, and to me it looks like it's going to be very high quality just like the first movie.

I don't see Will Farrell listed as part of the cast anywhere, I'm guessing his character might've died, and Finn is dealing with losing his father, which is why Bricksburg is so devastated. I'm seeing what clearly look like those "girls LEGO", and she mentions the "Sis-tar System", so my guess is he's going to grow in his relationship with his sister this movie, like he did with his father last movie.

I'm seeing hints at some feminist vibes, and poking fun at casual sexism tendencies in movies, which could be freshly humorous.

Did anyone else enjoy the first LEGO Movie and is also interested in this one, coming out next year?

I also loved it as well as The LEGO Batman Movie, but I never bothered with The LEGO Ninjgago Movie because I never played with those sets or watched the show. I'm definitely looking forward to this sequel.

Neither had I, but I caught it on HBO - if you liked The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie, you'll probably enjoy it even without any background coming in.

(Actually, my understanding is that they changed quite a bit from the source material, so not having that might be an advantage!)

Never seen the movie but the sets are amazing.

The movie was going to be about the Duplo invasion and now they changed that to be about boy play vs girl play. I think that's an interesting idea.

I don't think the dad is dead, I just don't think he's around, maybe divorce or busy with baby.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try at some point.

Yeah, I like that change to and it should be an intriguing topic for the film to explore.

I hadn't heard about the boy play vs girl play stuff. I wonder if they'll work in of the girl targeted themes, like Disney Princesses, Friends, or Elves.

Seem here.

Did you bother to watch the trailer? The minidoll (aka 'girl' thing) kidnaps most of the characters so yeah that will be a big part of it.

I wonder if he might be dead though? Like I feel his death would totally explain this whole post-apocalyptic world, if Finn's feeling depression from losing his father, especially if his dad passed away shortly after the last story. I'd think if he's divorced, he might've taken the LEGO toys with him, and Finn would still get to play in that world with his father when he visits?

I'm really feeling some Bridge to Terebithia vibes, like his world's shattered but he learns to connect with his sister, who possibly grew up never knowing their father.

Sure, I just didn't really put that together. I think I'll go back and rewatch it.

Killing the dad is way too dark for a movie like this. It's not about losing a parent, it's about how girls and boys play differently.

If his dad is divorced then the city is run down because the sister plays with it now and the dad doesn't have time to upkeep the city.

I enjoyed the first Lego movie immensely. The Batman movie bored me so much that I didn't finish it. But I will certainly see Lego 2.

It really wouldn't be the first happy kids movie franchise to do that kind of story. I think it could work beautifully if that's what they were going for.
