Lego Ktinga bridge

I'll reveal a secret - I've lurked this board on-and-off for years, mainly for the wonderful Donny interior recreations. Amazing!

I've made my own Lego bridge, which I need to get around to posting, but I was eagerly awaiting his Ktinga bridge model, and then that seemed to fizzle out. No insult to him, quality takes time, but getting impatient, I decided to build my own version in my medium of choice - Lego!

It's still a major work in progress, these photos are still me in my "rangefinding" mode - figuring out if things can fit before I start cleaning it up and making it efficient. Colors are nowhere near final - I just find gray much easier to look at while working.

Still trying to figure out how to attach the rear to the front. The rear circular section was dead easy as I already make a circle design for my Star Trek movie-era bridge - this arrangement offers 359+ degrees of coverage, so it looks contiguous.

What do you think?

Those are cool! :bolian:

I helped you out there with the image links. You have to actually add the URLs of the image itself when you want them to show up inline on here.

The thing to remember about the forward section of the K'Tinga bridge is that it is a wedge shape that fits into the slot in front of your helm duo. Figuring out how that wedge fits is the hard part, especially when you realize that the sides are wings or flanges that are not actually part of the main wedge.

Well, I did some more work on the bridge and here's what I've come up with:

Here's a shot of the basic idea for the unseen upper level, plan to put displays around the perimeter:

And a beauty shot: if you're not hearing the music, I'm not doing it right:

I plan on using aluminum pieces for the silver shock absorbers.

The design isn't perfect. I can finally sort of see that the side walls aren't present in the movie, but you just don't get that impression so I make the sidewalls solid. I'm also planning on using this as a basis for a Torpedo Bay, where the walls would fit perfectly. It's not the most detailed, but the bones are there.

Sadly, this is just the shell of it - the pieces are placed where they look good, I couldn't actually build this without adding a whole bunch of support structures which is my least favorite part of this. It's why I haven't finished my transporter room. I was hoping to have that ready for a lego convention end of the month, but ain't no way that's happening now, don't have time to order the pieces.

Anyways - what do you think? I know the color is still off, but the shape seems pretty dead on.

Apologies for the double post. I apparently still haven't gotten the hang of posting images - I apparently only posted the Thumbnail images not the actual images. I've tried reverse engineering the admin-corrected images in the first post, but still haven't figured it out. If someone could send me an example of what to paste in the image field, that'd be grand.

here are direct links to the images I attempted to share:

No problem, here's a short guide on what to grab and paste here. Hope that works for you. :)

You need to grab to actual URL of the image. Either open the image in a new tab and copy that URL or right-click on the image and chose “Copy Image Address”.

Hmmm... I'm wondering if those support struts can be swapped out for something less bulky and more elegant...

I was thinking maybe I could sandwich the technic pieces between other thin ones, to achieve the segmented look, but yeah, they don't really work and I'm likely to abandon the aluminum idea.

A single beam might not do the trick. I was experimenting a bit and the closest I came to the tapered structure is this (with bonus balljoint):

Because the whole assembly isn't actually supporting anything, it's OK if it's a tad flimsy...
