I like these games. Simple stupid goofy fun, and a great sense of humor, and generally good graphics and often stellar sound. Everyone of them has a part that kinda tests the nerves : Star Wars had the original Pod-Race and Dagobah, Batman has this one slide that seems like it was designed by the Joker himself, and Indy 1 had the flood in the mines on Temple Of Doom. Nothing to write home about, an island of real difficulty in a sea of easy.
Lego Indy 2 is no harder per se, but they redesigned it in several ways that seem counter-intuitive. No more Free Play, so you can't see how a high-jumper helps in this or that situation. Very specific treasure missions, meaning that it either selects for you (Indy&sidekick) or you must have characters with special abilities, sometimes 2-in-1. Characters no longer travel between movies, so the kick of say teaming Professor Jones with grandson Mutt, or imagining Willie and Marion talking trash about Indy is gone. One treasure level on Temple almost seems to fail you as you enter w/o indicating what you were supposed to do. Another has the enemies providing such massive interference in the goal its insane--they can even undo a part of the goal you've already accomplished. Vehicles don't travel between movies either, so no using the Flying Wing over Princeton or Germany. One of the things I always loved about LSW was you could replay levels and maybe have Mace or Anakin smash Palps in ROTJ. Call them kiddie or even baby games if you have to go there, but they're also fun, and this one's design is getting in the way of it.
I've given it a chance, and I'll likely give it more of a chance. But so far, I am a lot less than impressed. Maybe this approach was used because they didn't have as much material to work with as Part 1, since the best sequences from 1-3 were already in LIJ1, but it already makes me worry for Harry Potter.
