Legendary's Godzilla 2 & beyond - News & Rumors

Chronos is Zues's is father, Krampus is the anti-Santa who punishes bad children at Christmas time.
Not familiar with the director, but I think Krampus did get a relatively positive response when it came out, so there is potential there.

Fine by me. Aside from his character and Bryan Cranston's character, the whole cast was forgettable.

If they did it the way the original Japanese films did it, they'd bring back several of the same actors, but as totally different characters.

I've wondered whether the colorful, all-star cast of characters in Kong: Skull Island was a deliberate response to the criticisms of the bland characters in Godzilla '14. If so, it suggests that Legendary will put more effort into the characters in the Godzilla sequel.

Heh, that's a good point. I would love to have Cranston and Watanabe back as completely different characters. Would confuse the hell out of viewers and critics alike.

Hey.. If Trek can just throw on some prosthetic makeup on David Warner and turn him into a Klingon right after playing a human in the previous movie, why not?

We've also started getting some anthology shows like American Horror Story that reuse most of the same cast members but have them playing new characters almost every time, so this kind of thing isn't totally foreign to US audiences.

The Universal monster movies of the '30s and '40s did this too. For instance, Dwight Frye plays Henry Frankenstein's assistant in the first two Frankenstein films, but under a different character name each time, and he's back in several later monster films in different roles. Lionel Atwill is in five consecutive Frankenstein films, from Son of Frankenstein through House of Dracula, but he plays a different character in each one (though three of them are police inspectors). And let's consider two consecutive films in the series: In The Ghost of Frankenstein, Lon Chaney, Jr. played the Monster, Bela Lugosi played Ygor, and Evelyn Ankers played Elsa Frankenstein. In Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, Chaney played Larry Talbot, Lugosi played the Monster, and Ilona Massey played Elsa. And both The Wolf Man and its sequel Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man featured Patric Knowles, in a different role in each one. Evelyn Ankers had been the love interest in The Wolf Man, which may be why she wasn't brought back as Elsa in the crossover.

And then there's House of Frankenstein, the second crossover film, where Glenn Strange plays the Monster, John Carradine plays Dracula, and original Monster portrayer Boris Karloff returns as a new mad-scientist character. Just imagine how today's audiences would freak out over this constant recasting. I think it was more acceptable in the past because it was the sort of thing that would happen in live theater, with actors coming and going over time, and the same play being performed by different companies in different cities.

Charles Dance has joined the cast, and we're also getting at least one more cast member returning from the 2014 movie, Sally Hawkins as Dr. Vivienne Graham.
I skimmed through the thread, and it looks like we missed a few casting announcements, so here's who we have so far, and their credit IGN lists by their name.
Sally Hawkins (Godzilla [2014])
Ken Watanabe (Godzilla [2014])
Charles Dance (Game of Thrones)
Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things)
Kyle Chandler (Bloodline)
Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel)
Aisha Hinds (Underground)
O'Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton)
Seems like they've put together a pretty good cast.

And Charles Dance opens up the door for even more great casting.

Well, maybe for the sequel.

The cast for G:KotM seems very capable, but I'm more interested in seeing what Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah will look like. So far, no genuine concept art has surfaced, only fan suggestions.
