Joe Kubert, a legendary comic artist, passed away today at the age of 85.

We lost yet another master of the comic book art form today, as the legendary Joe Kubert passed away today at the age of 85. Kubert is known for his amazing artwork on comics like Sgt. Rock, Hawkman, Tarzan, Tor, Enemy Ace, Unknown Soldier, Fax from Sarajevo and so much more.

His sons, Andy and Adam Kubert are comic artists themselves.

Truly a sad day for comic fans.

Love his work. An early influence on my own art. One of those artists who was always improving.

RIP.

Great artist. Probably up there with Kirby for sheer number of pages drawn. I think he was still doing work at his age for DC.

He was inking Andy's artwork on Before Watchmen: Nite-Owl.

MTV Geek had an article in June with some videos of Joe talking about his work on the series, especially with how he inked his son's artwork.

I forgot to mention, he also founded The Kubert School, a technical school for sequential art and the comic industry. I remember seeing ads for it in comics as a kid. He kept his studio in the school and I believe that's where Andy and Adam work, as well.

He was a talented guy, no doubt about it. I was startled to hear of his passing but he's left a solid legacy.

Not an innovator like Kirby or Adams but in terms of longevity, consistency and quality of output over his career probably the best artist in the business. R.I.P.

He worked on many different subjects, but I'll always see him as synonymous with Sgt. Rock. He'll be missed.

Sad to hear it. I have fond memories of his old TARZAN comics for DC.

And his run on HAWKMAN, of course.

This one hits hard. He was one of the first comic artists whose name and style really resonated with me. His Hawkman, Sgt. Rock and Tarzan work were very early favorites of mine. Somewhere at home I have my invitation to attend the Kubert School in its first year. I was only 16 at the time (1976) and was shocked to receive the note - I had wriiten to inquire about it when it was first mentioned in a DC comic...

Rest in Peace, Joe.
