Certainly looks like they found some extra money somewhere. Much more convincing ship and sea than 'Our Flag Means Death' could manage.

And is this a Myrka I spy?

Finally the spiritual successor to Curse of the Black Spot that fans have been waiting for!

The trailer doesn't give all that much away, which I appreciate, but it makes it hard to tell whether it's going to be any good or not. All I know is that Dan pulled the short straw when it comes to pirate costumes.

While I don't have any interest in the special as a story, I'm just waiting for RTD to return when it comes to my interest in Doctor Who, I have to say that those Sea Devils look excellent. They kept most of the original design, but just did it better/with more budget. NuWho has had mixed results when it comes to redesigning old aliens, but those look good. Hopefully they'll be seen again in a better context.

I forget…they related to the Silurians?

Borges wrote about Zheng Yi SAO (The Widow Ching, Lady Pirate) but here she has one of the massive Treasure Ships of Zheng He…coolness. Dr. Who goes ONE PIECE!

Gavin Menzies thought those vessels at least capable of finding “The Fourth apart of the World.” But here in fiction, a little pseudohistory makes for great storytelling what with a “Sea Dragon” (not Truax’s yet…get to it CALT!)

For those of us interested in physical releases, it looks like this will come in a two-BD pack with Eve of the Daleks in May (at least in Europe). Gallifrey Base has used this site for release dates for a lot of the recent releases and it's usually correct.

He‘ll watch it, don’t worry. ;)

Well, since I've managed to never watch (checking Wikipedia for these titles, because its hard to keep track of all the junk) Demons of the Punjab, The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos, Resolution, Revolution of the Daleks, Orphan 55, Praxeus, Can You hear Me, any episode of Flux after episode 2, and Eve of the Daleks, I think I can resist watching Chibnall's shit fairly well. I hate all the characters, and Chibnall's work in general, so the Sea Devils, while cool, aren't enough to make me watch more shit. At most, I'll look for youtube clips of the sea devils.

Of course, you could actually give this episode a chance and you might actually enjoy it.

Yeah, yeah, I know. That's just plain crazy talk.

Well, when I've disliked to hated literally every episode of Chibnall's run that I've watched except episode 1 of Flux (which was immediately ruined by Episode 2), its kind of weird to assume that this episode deserves a chance from me. Its not even a new writer, Chibnall is a co-writer of the damn episode.

Like the first part of this post says I've skipped some episodes, but after watching about 16 out of 29 episodes (and only one episode of those 16 being genuinely good to me), I have a pretty good grasp on my opinion on Chibnall's stuff, and one cool alien redesign isn't going to flip the opinion.

Of course, some people think that you can't form an opinion on something even after 16ish hours of suffering through it, but I think that's enough time to figure out if you like a body of work or not. I don't think suffering through another hour of Chibnall TV is going to be worth my time.

Interesting, though a bit odd. Given we're in April and there's no physical media release yet of Eve of the Daleks (or even one announced) I was operating under the belief that they were waiting until after the BBC Anniversary Special in the fall and release all three specials in one set. Which would have made more sense to me than Eve of the Daleks and Legend of the Sea Devils being released together and the fall special apparently being a separate release. But oh well.

"Revolution of the Daleks" is also an orphaned release. I thought they'd put it in the Flux box set but no luck. (No 4K release either even though it was broadcast that way.)
