CAPTAIN though?! In 2259?! This better be some joke or flashforward image....but I do like the casting. He kinda looks a bit Shatner and Vic Mignogina mixed.

Hmm. A large part of my excitement for this show was specifically to keep following Anson Mount as Pike. I’ll be disappointed if they shove him off in favor of Kirk — TOS is Kirk’s show, SNW should remain Pike’s. But maybe Kirk won’t be a Captain yet, or will be a recurring character from another ship, as Pike initially was on Discovery. We’ll see.
I'm guessing CBS had to announce this after fans posted a video of Paul Wesley on TikTok in Toronto's Yonge/Dundas Sq in a Starfleet uniform filming a scene. I remember last year there was buzz about Kirk being added to SNW and there was some "controversy" because there was talk of Kirk being bisexual.

I REALLY hope not! I assumed the plan was it was going to be about Pike and crew, not the transition from Pike to Kirk in the middle of the series! That's NOT what I wanted!
He's sitting on the Enterprise bridge in the publicity shot. If Anson doesn't want to carry on they're kind of in a bind continuity-wise. Either recast Pike or transition to Kirk.
