Left 4 Dead

Trubinator

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I tried this one out with an old friend last week and found it pretty enjoyable. Despite it being a relatively mindless game, it certainly has some undeniable, addictive appeal. Does anyone else here like it or have kind things to say about it? I'm thinking of buying the PC version soon because it's down to $27 on Amazon.com

Also, to any Valve know-it-alls: Will they keep their promise and continue providing free DLC after L4D2 comes out? People seem to disagree a lot on this issue.

I'm having fun with this game, but only when playing co-op with friends. It's nothing new, but the kinetic frenzy of it all makes it really fun.

As for DLC, I really don't know. The fact that the sequel is coming out only one year later suggests to me that they won't, unless the first L4D is still a big seller even after L4D2 is out.

L4D is pretty fun, if a tad repetitive. As for more DLC, Valve usually sticks by their promises so if they said they will release more stuff for L4D they will. Although this carries the standard Valve caveat - They take bloomin ages to do anything. Just ask TF2 players.

We have been promised continued DLC support by Gabe Newell himself despite what the people moaning about L4D2 have had to say.

I've bought it on both PC and Xbox 360 and it's great fun on both. The AI director does a good job of keeping things fresh. It will always stick a Witch or a Tank somewhere new so there's always a new problem to solve.

Online versus mode is quite good fun too. You alternate between playing as a Survivor and as one of the Special Infected (Hunters, Smokers, Boomers and occasionally as a Tank - no you can't play as the Witch).

My friends have been enjoying L4D for a while now.
I have to disagree with it being mindless though. If you and your co-zombie killers don’t develop a good strategy as to tackle each section you will be spending a lot of time watching them play while waiting to re-spawn.

As for DLC content for L4D I doubt we will see any since L4D 2 will be out in a few months.
L4D 2 on the other hand will.

Not saying I wouldn’t welcome anything new for L4D but it is one of the handful of games I own that I feel was worth the $60.00 I paid for it.

I play w/the wife on 360 and, while connection issues sometimes ruin a game, I still feel we got our $ worth. Also, in an interview on one of my demo discs from XBOX magazine, one of the creators stated they had every intention of DLC for L4D and that they were exploring an "overlay" DLC that would let players mix with L4D2 players online. I don't think Valve is going to bail on the original-just like i don't think L4D2 is going to sell as well as they hope Week 1. COD:MW2 comes out 7 days prior and will eat a lion's share of the market and L4D will still have players who can't afford to spring for both so close together. IMO.

I just got this game for my birthday, and it's pretty fun. It's a far better experience when you play with other people in the same room though.

just read this about L4D2

"It seems The Parish campaign will feature another uncommon-common infected. The riot police wearing full bulletproof vests zombies.

These kevlar wearing infected can only be killed from behind, making it especially difficult if two are bearing down on your character. A quick melee hit will stun them, even knocking them down and exposing their posteriors. But as they charge you, unloading a full clip on their fronts will essentially do nothing."

sounds cool.

Has anyone tried out the lighthouse map in survival mode? That looks interesting as well...

I have. As the poster says when you played it - It Doesn't End Well.

It's free so you may as well try it. You don't have to play with other people. Just set up your own "multiplayer" game on a local, friends only server and you can play on your own.

Yeah, we'll see about that.

Anyway, I would wait for Left 4 Dead 2. There is no reason to buy the original when a much improved sequel will be released in three months. Besides, even if Left 4 Dead continues to receive DLC it will pale in comparison to the DLC in the sequel.

^Except they're different games, with different enemies that require different strategies. I would strongly advise the OP to get the first game.

This is definitly true. I was in a quad in college and there was nothing more fun than the lot of us going online and crushing some zombies

Getting tired of the cheats-last night the other team demolished us on the first chapter, then proceeded to get 3x-4x as many pipe bombs and health kits as us for the rest of the game, despite a massive score difference. They got the weapon upgrades on 2 chapters-and we didn't. I Boomed them and got a 6 zombie horde. They boomed me in almost the exact same place-and I was fighting off zombies for 3-4 minutes(it felt like). At the plane(Dead Air) the first Horde to hit us had 40+ zombies-it just kept coming despite using our (2cnd) pipe bomb of the game-we were all at 26 Health or so by the time they stopped. What the hell is the cheat being used? Lag, I got no problem with-it happens. But how were they manipulating the numbers like that?
