I think this demo just persuaded me NOT to buy this game. While I had fun playing L4D co-op with friends, I can't justify paying full price for this game. The controls still feel floaty and loose (admittedly I've been playing a TON of Borderlands which has some of the best controls around, IMO) and the demo level taking place in daylight just doesn't work, robbing the game of its scary "holy crap what's around the corner" atmosphere. The engine being used for this game really shows its age too, despite L4D2 looking considerably better than its predecessor.

Hopefully this is a case of the demo not being representative of the final game, but I'm guessing that's not the case with the full game so close to release. :(

DL'ed this morning before work, gonna try it tonight.

Didn't do it last night as I too was playing Borderlands.
I can't say enough good things about that game.

I played it-the new guns are tighter, the freakin' spitter is a lot more dangerous than I expected and the machete is a blast. This isn't COD so I had no real expectations-that said, the demo was fun and the "creep" factor, IMO, is still there at times. Having a witch wander around a hedgerow maze is enough to make anyone jumpy.

Played 1st level and some of 2nd (had to come off) it felt better than 1st one...

The controls feel a little refined and the new weapons are good especially the frying pan, nothing like whailing on zombies with pan and also the night stick. Dunno about the new bosses cause none of them got near me though I expect the tank to still annoy me to hell. Still wouldn't buy it on launch due to price and too early for a sequel IMO so will wait a while maybe until hear about some DLC content.

I only paid $33.75 for the PC version and since I have the PC version I'll be getting all of the DLC for free. :techman:

Yeah, PC is the way to go for L4D 2. Because it's built on the older Source engine it runs great on even my computer, save a few bucks and get free DLC.

DLC side of PC is good but Live makes communcation easier and more fun IMO.

Agreed, I can't even get my mic to work on Steam.

My friends and I usually end up using our old Warcraft Vent server or just chatting over Xbox Live when we play L4D/Team Fortress 2 on PC.

I usually use Vent but Live party is better still.

Unless, of course, you sit in front of a PC at work for 9 hours a day, have zero desire to sit in front of a PC even more after work and all your friends play on Xbox Live...

I may give this one a miss. L4D was fun at first but the nature of the community quickly became more hassle than it's worth and I suspect unless something is radically different (other than the use of cooking utensils in melee combat) the same will be true with this game.

Played it last night and even though L4D2 was a day one purchase, it pretty much sealed the deal.
I like the way they changed the theme music to match more of the Louisiana/bayou atmosphere and I like the new characters as well.

I’ve heard the complaints that being in the daylight takes away from the creepiness of it, IMO it’s not true.
I think going from a day lit street into a dark house adds to the creepiness.
I like the new Special baddies as well.
A spitter that spits acid.
A jockey that jumps on your back and beats on you while riding you, he also makes a donkey “Hee Haw” like sound that was cracking me up.
A Charger that is dressed in overalls (very funny) that charges you and knocks you down.
And a female boomer as well as all our old favorites.

I also like the new mêlée feature but I wish you didn’t have to replace one of your guns to use it.
I was having a blast with the machete.

All and in all from what little I’ve seen, think it has some nice improvements.

I’m in.

Some of the menus looked different in terms of options-underneath may have things to curb the worst excesses of the L4D community. I hope so-can't stand jerks who come into my room and try to vote me off. My big hope is Leaderboards, like COD. Anyone know anything about that? (I'm XBOX, not PC).

Just had a go on the demo. The new weapons are fun and it's nice to have a machete when your ammo runs dry but I find it a little difficult to figure out where you're supposed to go, a problem I never had with the original.

Perhaps it's the switch to daytime, with the all night levels they were able to use lights and shadows to subtly guide you.

I don't have a problem with the daylight in principle, it's just as creepy as the night but it has it's own gameplay complications that weren't there before.

Well keep in mind this is just one part of the game, toward the end. Most of the rest of the game appears to take place at night. So I'm guessing its kind of a 'dusk til dawn' setting.
Personally I enjoyed the demo. The action is practically non-stop so you have to be on your toes all the time. And the 'running crescendo at the end is a nice addition. No more corner camping.

As for teammates, I guess I'm just lucky, as most of the public games I've joined have had decent enough players. I've run into a couple of jerks, but then its easy enough to bail and find another game.

Already got it pre-ordered and pre-installed. Just trying to hang on til the 17th.
