League of Gentlemen (BBC)

I just finished the entire series for the first time, having previously seen S1-2 on Comedy Central. What do you think of the show?

I loved the first two years. I thought it was a brilliant mix of slapstick comedy and dark horror. I loved how there was a serialized story to the comedy, and how many of these silly people were cold blooded murders. I particularly liked the S2 story of the entire town being threatened with the nose bleed disease, it felt very epic and cool. It's a shame we didn't see more of Demonic David Tubbs' son, though!

But the third season I felt was crap. It completely ceased being a comedy! It just became a dark drama with occasional horror elements. Obviously it was always a dark comedy/horror, but what happened to the comedy? Not to mention all the good characters aren't even in S3; no Tubbs, Edward, Hillary, Toad people, Lazarou only briefly at the end. I did think the way every episode ended at the same event from a different POV was very cool though.

Also saw the Christmas Special for the first time. It was clearly a hybrid between S2/3; no laugh track, dark, serious, but it still managed to be funny. I liked it alright, though I was sorely disappointed that Lazarou was only at the very end. I did find all the stories very interesting and creepy, and with the exception of the first voodoo doll story, pretty funny at the same time.

Lazarou was definitely the most interesting character, so it's a real shame he only makes three brief appearances. After that, Edward and Tubbs, I suppose. Herr Lipp was pretty funny, and the Toad People. And Barbara. Oh, and the cursed vet! He wasn't in S3 was he?

I just read on Wiki that they just announced they're doing a new show, same people, different characters/concept. Hopefully it will be more comedy than drama.

I too enjoyed the whole show, and the movie. I have series 1, 3 and the live show on dvd, I keep meaning to get round to buying the rest but something else always ends up catching my eye.

I believe the upcoming programme only involves 2 of the league, not all 4 of them.

Ah yes, the Apocalypse movie. I'd love to see it but apparently it doesn't exist in the US! It doesn't exist on Amazon. Was it only released on R2 DVD or something?

The whole show is great I like season three best. However that was not always the case. I found season three has so much to take in I had to watch a lot more.
I thought the movie was ok but it was hyped so much it was impossible for it not to be a little bit of a let down.
However: (from wikipedia)
In May 2008, Reece Shearsmith confirmed a new show written by himself and Steve had been green lit for production with the BBC. Although this is not with the League, he confirmed it would be in a similar style and that the League would re-unite in the future.
