Law & Order UK tonight

Apollo and Martha Jones in the same show? That's just cool. I hope BBC America does get it. (In part because, in the weeks since I got digital cable, BBCA has had nothing on that I've wanted to watch except for some reruns of Tennant's latest Who season. I'd been expecting all sorts of cool British shows and all it has are reality shows and cooking shows, it seems.)

Would be weird to see an L&O set outside of New York City, though.
In the coming months you should be getting Primeval series 3, Being Human series 1 and Survivors series 1 airing on BBC America, as well as Torchwood series 3, Skins series 2 or 3 (can't remember what's aired so far) and I'd assume Ashes to Ashes series 2.

As for Law & Order, I didn't think it was great, but it was OK, I think maybe with some time to get to know the characters I could begin to enjoy it more... IF the doink doink doesn't annoy me too much...

I saw the ad in the Metro this morning and it took me a good 30 seconds to recognise Jamie Bamber, he looks so different.

Really? In the YouTube clip, I thought he looked exactly the same.

I thought he was very recognizable in both the ad and the clip. However, it took me some time to associate this accent with Bamber's face. I was like, who the hell is just speaking, in some of the scenes .

I'll be watching Torchwood, but I don't know much about the rest. Isn't Freema in Survivors? Then I'll be watching it. As for Primeval, is that any good? Will they be rerunning the first two series before showing the third? (What I've heard about Being Human doesn't appeal to me, I'm not that interested in the Life on Mars franchise, and I don't know what Skins is.)

I don't get why people call it a "doink doink." It sounds more like a "dong dong" or "dang dang" to me. There's no rise in pitch as the "oi" suggests and no sharp decay as the "k" suggests.

I called it the doink doink because that's what someone in this thread called it, otherwise I would have just called it the sting.

Freema is only in the first episode of Survivors. Primeval is fairly good, I'd compare it Stargate entertaining fluff mostly. I couldn't say if they'll be repeating them though.
Being Human has turned out very well, in my opinion. It's improved with every episode, and I can't wait for the next one.
Skins is a teen drama about a group of kids who go to college together. Not sci-fi in any way, but it's very good.

Looking at the BBC America site it looks like Skins series 1 is just about to end and series 2 is just about to begin, Primeval doesn't seem to have any upcoming repeats.

Again, guess who hasn't seen the original?:p

I've been on a real Law & Order kick lately, but I'm not sure how I'll react to the British take on it. For that matter, I've yet to be able to stomach any Law & Order episode that didn't have Jack McCoy in it.

It is quite weird - especially as I'm familiar with his real accent, which he uses in interviews (obviously) and in Hornblower , which is the only other show I've seen him in (other than BSG, clearly). He's not really at all London in reality.

Saw the ep last night. I saw the same episode early on in L&O's history. I wonder if they are just going to re-film old L&Os and put a British twist on them. Don't mind, but it definitely takes the suspense out of the mystery.

^^Well, if they're early ones, that wouldn't be a problem for me, since TNT never reruns any of the pre-Waterston seasons except in the wee hours of the morning.

I think that's part of the original goal, though I'm sure that if the show is a hit they'll branch out and make the show more unique.

Well, there were some other changes beyond straight-up procedural differences. I haven't seen the original version (looked up about it online afterwards), so I was more than happy with the episode. :)

I do wish they'd kept the logo font & title music, though. (Well, I'd have expected another remix, but at least the other three spinoffs are musically identifiable as L&O. ;))

^Hm? The clip I saw, linked to earlier in the thread, showed a title sequence that used the CI version of the L&O theme, the same logo, and a similar (though more static) visual format. Was that just a temporary or promotional version?

Yeah, it was pretty different (though at the end of the sequence the main characters did the usual walk down the hallway towards the camera). Visually I really liked it, but I prefer the Mike Post theme common to the other Law and Orders.

The only clip I see linked doesn't use any previous theme that I recognize, be it the real versions or their UK replacements (though "theme" implies greater musicality than their random noise presents :p).

The final title sequence's visuals are obviously related to the US shows' visuals, but are far less static. It's all clips or moving background shots, no static images. The kind of thing you might expect if they were starting fresh instead of inheriting 18 seasons worth of baggage. ;)

I think they said they reworked scripts from early on, including ones that we're filmed, but they hope to go off in their own direction if it gets a second series.

The show isn't bad, but it almost seems like a SNL parody of Law&Order with the wigs and english dialects and all that. ;)
