Law & Order - Obama reference

I don't watch L&O, but the alternate takes theory seems very likely. Seinfeld did something more elaborate with an episode centered around the Dinkins/Giuliani mayoral race, which included not just filming alternate endings, but filming each of the mayoral candidates giving a post-election address. (Or was it somebody in Dinkins' campaign staff standing in for him? The alternate ending is on the DVD, but my memory of it is fuzzy.)

President-elect Obama is a Star Trek fan, so Bill Shatner better make a request to give him a call.
Oh god...does this mean that Bill Shatner's going to start a relentless campaign of bitching in the media that he hasn't been offered a role in the Obama administration...?

An upcoming episode of Boston Legal will involve a woman who was fired for voting for McCain and they announced it last week.
^ That's not necessarily foreshadowy unless they specifically state who won.
Even if McCain had won, it wouldn't matter...
it's a discrimination suit, likely based on a story from back in 2004 about a woman who sued her employer for terminating her because he was a Republican and she had a Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker on her car. They've just updated it for today and flipped it around — liberal boss, conservative employee.

Jack McCoy is so middle of the road that I could actually see him being included in either administration.

It's hard to think of Jack McCoy as a liberal after the episode a few seasons ago where he lobbied to have several dozen gay marriages performed by a mayor in upstate New York declared illegitimate just so that he could get a witness to testify without being restrained by spousal privilege.

I think that Law & Order is perhaps a bit further to the right than most TV but it's hardly in Fox News territory. Yes, they had Fred Dalton Thompson on the show for years but they always seemed to be making him look like an idiot.

It's his support for capital punishment that makes it impossible for me to think of him as a liberal.

I've gotten the opposite impression -- he's often the one offering the pithy, cynical, yet realistic insights that give the prosecutors the key to winning their cases. Branch is written as a smart and savvy guy. If anyone's making Thompson look like an idiot to you, it must be Thompson himself.
