:guffaw:well that went well

The CW and Warner Bros. TV have been forced to scrap their plans for "The Graysons," reports Variety. The show, which had been given a put pilot commitment, was set to revolve around Batman sidekick Robin in his pre-Caped Crusader days.

The trade says the decision to yank the project came from Warner Bros. Pictures Group president Jeff Robinov, who initially gave his blessing but changed his mind in recent days.

The CW had been counting on "The Graysons" to fill the void left by the likely series end of "Smallville." Like "Smallville," "The Graysons" is a superhero origins story. The show was developed to revolve around the world of Dick "DJ" Grayson before taking on the iconic Robin identity.

"The studio has opted not to go forward with the development of 'The Graysons' at this time as the concept doesn't fit the current strategy for the Batman franchise," the studio said in a statement. "Warner Bros. Television is currently working on several replacement options for the CW."

A script had not yet been written for "The Graysons," which was still in early stages of development.

The one-hour "Graysons" was to be set in modern times and focus on young DJ as he faced challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family -- a famous juggling act -- as he grew up.
well thank god for that, the show started to go down hill after the 3rd season, when they introduced Batgirl, and Dick went to Circus College & as for future Nightwing in S4, what was he thinking getting together with Catwoman, who was at least better than the Catwoman movie.

Still the cameo appearnce by Adam West made at least one episode worth while

:p

Clark Kent had new powers to discover each season of "Smallville" and the exploration of his Kryptonian origins, so that was enough there to keep the show going from season to season along with the motives of his arch rival Lex Luthor and his father.

For Dick Grayson, the whole reason behind him becoming a superhero sidekick was his parents death. Had this show gone forward, Grayson would have been pretty much established in his own right before Bruce Wayne even entered the picture. Plus, what would the writers need to come up with for fans to continually want to tune into this TV show.

This show didn't have legs, so they wisely decided to axe it before it went any further beyond the initial planning stages.

Coming soon to the CW - Themyscria!

Teen princess Diana, along with her friends Artie and Cassie, struggle with teenage dramas and living in the shadow of her successful mother.

Oh, wait, this is the CW - "what do you mean no men are allowed on the island ? We have shirtlessness quotas to fill!!!"

This show probably would have pretty much like the Birds of Prey show but without as many hot chicks.

I agree, I didnt think the show would be very good either, just having some fun, and Bruce Wayne/Batman would never had appeared in this show.

Then where do they go off to procreate?
if my history is correct, they would either make them out of clay, or rape & kill any man who washed up on the island.

But seriously any WonderGirl series would have her leaving Themyscria, thanks to her teenage girl rebellious streak.

Both the Pre and Post Crisis versions of their history the Amazons, after they had gained their freedom from Hercules, they were granted eternal life and did not need to reproduce, so long as they did not allow themselves to be "beguiled" by men.

In addition, the healing properties of the Purple Ray would keep any dwindling of their numbers through deaths by natural causes to a minimum.

How fcuking hard is it for them? Just give us the god-damned Justice League series and be done with it!

I believe I read on this forum, that theCW was allowed to use Green Arrow, but they would not be allowed a spin-off, which im guessing rules out him appearing in a Justice League spin-off, as he would probaly be the lead.

To be honest theCW has its problems, but alot of the problem comes from DC Lawyers. Green Arrow is a brilliant example of this, here is a version of character who has pretty much been exclusive to the comics, and generally unknown to the general public, who appears on a primetime TV show, and is loved by the fans of that show, Green Arrow has never been so well known

We can debate what Smallville has done for the Clark Kent characer, but its done wonders for the Green Arrow, why DC is trying to stop that, I have no clue.

As you say the Green Arrow & the Justice League series is the most obvious spin-off for Smallville, and DC Comics should be supporting them with this.

No need to worry. I just pitched my series to the CW that they're going to pick up -- "Starfleet Academy."

James Kirk is a humble do-gooder who has a secret life helping people. One day he saves Khan Singh after Khan -- a slightly older civilian who for some odd reason likes to hang around the younger cadets -- crashes a shuttlecraft into the Bay. Khan is grateful but it turns out their parents have a history. George Kirk and Vijay Singh are mortal enemies, and Vijay also has a thing for James' mother Winona. History repeats itself when James and Khan both go after Carol Marcus, a perfect cadet who never does wrong and everyone admires... despite her knack for crashing shuttlecrafts and getting concussions. Also, Kirk has a secret that Khan MUST FIND OUT ABOUT.

Too bad the CW don't have a similar deal with Marvel like they do with DC (well, seeing as DC is owned by WB...). They'd be all over a Generation X TV series--which would hopefully turn out better than that godawful made-for-TV movie back in the 90s.

Nah, but Young Avengers is ripe for the CW treatment, maybe even Runaways.

It's not really a deal as much as it is Smallville being a Warner Brothers production that used to run on a Warner Brothers owned network based on characters owned by a Warner Brothers owned comics company.

On the next 'Graysons' :

"I am from another world, DJ."

"You sure knocked me out of this one."

"I'm a policeman's daughter, Deej. Your alien girl is hiding something. Why is she being hunted?"

"TELL ME THE TRUTH, KORY!"

"She's here."

"Who?"

"My sister."

That's next week on 'The Graysons'.

:D

While relieved, I'm curious what superhero franchise (if any) DC will allow CW to make now. They seem uber protective over anything relating to Batman.

The main problems with the Justice League come when you look at the characters that it might include; Batman is obviously a no-no. If you include Superman then you a) impinge on the movie franchise, which may be ok, seeing as Smallville co-existed with the Routh movie, and b) have to either convince Welling to play him, or get someone new and have a different Superman again, which will no doubt annoy some people. There's also often talk of a Wonder Woman movie, which suggests that this character may be problematic as well. Hasn't a Green Lantern movie also already been announced which would tend to indicate that that's another one chalked off?

In the end you're left with Green Arrow, Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman, which is essentially as the JL appeared in Season six anyway.

Personally, I'd go down that route and have the lesser known members of the group in the show, thereby allowing the likes of Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman to live out lives on the larger screen.

but isnt that what people want, a true spin-off featuring the cast & characters from the Smallville Justice League, ok some changes would be made, but I think Smallville gives you a very good starting point.

meanwhile I found this detail on another website

Warner Bros president Jeff Robinov had initially given the greenlight to the pilot, but changed his mind after Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan reportedly voiced his discomfort at having a TV show on the air that conflicted with his Batman film series.
ok so it was never a great concept, but to axe it for this reason is just really lame, its not like he ever plans to use Robin.
