Latest rumor-mongering: Tom Cruise as Captain Pike?

Cruise was rumored to have a cameo in Star Trek since the beginning of the project, but he's supposedly denied it. Also, Ray Liotta doesn't even look like Ray Liotta anymore.

This is actually interesting, given the context.

That said, IGN floated some pretty much fabricated rumors about Sinise, Damon and Brody. Cruise seems pretty unlikely. The notion of an A-lister or two as guests, though, does not.

Tom "Scientoligy" Cruise ? Paramont fired his [BLEEP].
No way he could be back for Star Trek anyawy, because it goes against his "Religon" yanno.

I'm calling bullshit, both for the reason Dennis cited, and because Cruise is busy doing that movie about Klaus von Stauffenberg.

If Abrams really does want an A-list "guest star," I really hope that they get Matt Damon to play Pike. I've always thought that he would be perfect for the role, even when he was rumored to be up for Kirk. And casting him as Pike (especially since he was interested in Kirk) would be almost like a consolation to people who were hoping he would get Kirk. But the main reason is just that I think he'd be perfect for Pike.
That note about the mystery actor they're trying to get for the villain also intrigues me. Glad to know they're aiming high, if this article is accurate.

IGN has lost all credibility at this point. Yet, still, wait for it... all the Trek news sites will cover this.

Agreed. After the Damon, Brody, and Sinise report, my trust in IGN's movie department has gown down in flames. Having said that, this article is very interesting.

BLLLEEEAAARRRGGHHH!!!

On his first day on the set, will he find this tacked to his dressing room trailer?

In the name of progressive, tolerant, forward-thinking, we can't let a Scientologist anywhere near Star Trek!!! That'd be like a Mormon in the White House!

Cruise would be good as a villain. Seriously: Magnolia, Collateral, he looks like he's got another winning role in Lions for Lambs...that's the type of role he excels at. More complex than your average Trek baddie, more on par with Dukat for psychological complexity, maybe impossible in a two hour flick but who knows?

And if you think this Cruise stuff is crazy then you don't even want to know which A-lister we were told Paramount is trying to land to play the villain!

Hee hee, here's an idea that would make everyone look twice: TOM HANKS!

Isn't he sposed to be a Trekkie or something?

Now that's just teasing.

However, if the enterprise crew is made up of unknowns, then it would make sense to cast an A-lister as the villain to give the movie some star power.

I have a funny picture in my mind

^ As long as it doesn't involve Marie Osmond playing with Donny's.... uh, hose.

Also, fixed. :p

We know Tom Cruise has dark side powers because we saw Tom zap Oprah with his force lightning last year. He's be perfect as the villain because they can save some money on the special effects budget. He can do his own!
