Latest gas prices where you are thread

Amazing... We're still at $2.29 while most of the country is well below $2.00..... I hope the FTC really nails the friggin local distributors for gouging...

Boned in NY Q2UnME

Local gas station - $2.08 on Monday, $2.01 on Wednesday, $1.89 on Thanksgiving.

Just an update on this one since this morning - gas was $1.84 at this station today. Since Monday, gas has dropped 24 cents at this one station!

(I did see it at $1.79 at another station today)

I predict it will stay more or less in this neighborhood given all the talks about the Saudi's wanting to increase the price of oil

I haven't been away from campus in a few days, but according to Tharp's website, we are as low as $1.41, with several sitting at $1.45, and most at $1.48. Still, it's lower.

I heard on NPR's Marketplace program Friday that while the retail price of gasoline has dropped 50%, the wholesale price has dropped 70%. In other words they are making more money on gasoline on the way down than they were on the way up.

They're probably trying to recoup loses earlier in the year. Some states are adopting some strict rules on pricing. NC prosecuted a great many stations for gouging when the hurricane hit a couple of months ago. Also, many stations were conscious of the increases so they and some local supplier made minimal increases during the year, which lowered their profits; so this isn't unexpected.

Down 5 cents today to $1.74 here. The combined gas tax (fed and state here) is 43 cents. So the real price, not taxed here is $1.31. I believe in SC the price is ten cents or slightly more less in some places. If I had the money to play with, I'd drive to Atlanta, my playground away from home. Oh well, Durham is calling me this weekend.

Grocery prices are still out of control here though, and a good part of that is due to shipping costs. I'm more concerned about that right now than I am gas qua gas. I'd like the dropping price of diesel to start being reflected in other prices now too.
