Latest gas prices where you are thread

Just filled up for 82.8p/litre*, cheapest its been in about 3 years. And it was just on the news that prices are due to fall further. Huzzah!

*$4.54/US gallon

Baltimore County, Maryland $1.52

I'm a city dweller but, my mom wanted some help running her errands (driving her around) and that was the cheapest price I saw up in the hinterlands yesterday.

In New York City and surrounding areas, I've recently seen it as low as $1.75. I need to find a cheaper gas station, or move to Utah! -- RR

It jumped all the way to $1.63, from $1.39 a few days ago, AAA said it's the Israeli Gaza war thing going on.

Gas jumped from $1.59 to $1.79 in my hometown yesterday.

In New Albany, it had actually gone down a little from $1.76 to $1.70 this morning.

If it makes any of you feel better, Cheyenne is not only holding steady, but more stations have dropped from 1.31 to 1.29 over the past few days. :p

Problem is, people in the West -- especially in the U.S. -- will become once again inured to the soaring cost of gas only just this past summer. Then, the will to wean the world off fossil fuels will once again weaken in the face of cheap gas, making it more difficult to get off the addiction to petrol. Unfortunate. Esp. since Western Europe is poised to not only be at the mercy of the Middle East oil barons, but the threat of disruption of fuel supplies from an increasingly autocratic Russia, which is punishing its neighbors like Ukraine for not bowing to the Russian Bear's will. Not a good situation! -- RR

Perhaps. On the other hand, sooner or later, if petrol does start to run out before alternatives come to market then the cost will rise again, and more consistently. So the market will work then to move us towards alternatives.

FWIW, I don't think the crossover will have to wait until then as there's already a lot of R&D into alternatives right now.
