Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Discussion

^

I think so too. I wasn't blown away or anything but I think there's enough there to work with. Once Fallon gets over his nerves and drops his days on SNL as a crutch I think there's a decent little show to be had here.

Just finishing the Lick It section on streaming video... I personally think it's pretty bad. I never really liked Fallon. It's not offensively bad like Carson Daly. But it's not good.

Also, is it just me or is debuting it now with no support kind of setting it up to fail? Why not hold it until Conan premieres in the earlier spot so you can have massive publicity for the whole block of programming?

*shrug*

They should have given the show to Laura Graham.

She is hot, and she is the funniest person ever during interviewers, the show could really work!

I think why the show started now and not in June is so he can have the wrinkles worked out before Conan takes over the Tonight Show.

Fallon already has himself in the hole because I don't like him. I found him annoying on SNL, and I thought he was pretty unprofessional on SNL. If it wasn't for Horatio Sanz being on the show, Jimmy Fallon's inability to actually maintain character during sketches would have been that much more obvious. I think a poster or two has commented on it, but it's something which always really bugged me.

I watched the first episode and I thought the Roots (seriously how the **** are the Roots the house band for this show???) did better then Fallon. Hell the Slow Jammin' the News was the best part of the show and it wasn't because of anything Fallon did.

Of course I'm biased since I'm born and raised in Philly and a big fan of them.

Justin Timberlake making fun of John Mayer is just strange. Timberlake is annoying to most people who hate John Mayer for the very same reasons that Mayer is annoying (read: insufferable douchebaggery)!

*sigh*

I'm hoping that his youth will allow him to keep the promise of trying to engage the "geek" crowd rather than make fun of it.
Why engage the geek crowd? They don't seem to watch any shows in enough numbers to keep them on the air (see: every show on Friday night on FOX for the last ten years).

Ah, I miss Conan. Still, maybe he'll be good in three years ;) I understand Conan sucked the first three years.

So far it seems like a talk show with bad SNL skits

Agreed.

Also agreed, and a very good point.

A very intriguing idea. I wonder how a female host in general would skew towards their target demographic? Laura Graham would of course be the ideal choice.

See, this is how I feel in general about the whole thing. I'm sticking to Craig Ferguson.

It was bland and unfunny, exactly what one would expect from Jimmy Fallon.

Conan may have been shaky but come on - he's quick, he's smart, he belongs in the same league as Letterman and Carson. Fallon? He's in the Chevy/Magic/Carson Daly league if you ask me.

See - Fallon wasn't so bad - he was just meh. How can you improve on meh? That's him.

I haven't watched the first episode, but I enjoyed the next two. I really enjoyed his interviews with Tina Fey, Jon Bon Jovi, Cameron Diaz, and Billy Crudup. He had a good rapport with them and they were a lot of fun.

Plus the Roots are awesome. I think I'll tune in if the guests are good.

He's nowhere near Conan, but I liked the first show - the only I've seen so far. It wasn't something to remember, but there's something there that could turn out good. I hope he is given the time to develop, like they did for Conan.

Conan!

can't wait till he becomes a guest like Letterman on Conan

the monologue was a bit shakey. It was like a kid telling jokes in front of his parents

I agree, but for a little perspective I give you Conan's first Late Night

Wow, look how young Max is. I recall at the time that Conan seemed really awkward and needing to find its feet. In retrospect, it might be just adjusting to his style and humor but it's hard to say off of just one episode.

Jimmy doesn't seem to be pushing it too hard which might be a good place to start. I guess we'll see in a couple of weeks if things start to gel. I think The Roots are a pretty cool house band and he seems to have a good style, it might just come together, but won't be as irreverent as Conan and Letterman before him.

If he brings on Horatio Sanz as his sidekick though....

He's getting the Diggnation guys on next week, apparently. I'm almost curious to know how that will turn out... since that's the pop culture equivalent of the Bush Administration official that pops up on The Daily Show once in a while.
