Last Doctor Who Story you listened to?

He likes the blue coat. He just prefers the rainbow coat, though.

And you'd be doing yourself a great disservice to avoid the Evelyn run, for two reasons: 1)Six's most best stories occur with her, and its the most consistent run of Doctor-companion in not only BF, but maybe of all of Who. 2)He actually wears the rainbow coat for the first half of their run together.

Maybe you should just go ahead and listen to the Lost Stories. There's plenty of season 22-23 Six there for you, with Peri, too.

Looking them up, the Lost stories don't sound very interesting. Then again, not a lot of Big Finish does. Anyway, the Sixth Doctor already had his best companion, on TV (Peri) and he already had his best stories (The Two Doctors and Attack of the Cybermen). As far as I'm concerned, his days (unfortunately) ended in the 80s. I liked the set I bought and I'm glad I got it, but to me TV is where the real Doctor Who stories happen. Its where the characters develop and have the best stories.

So, yeah, unless its something really special for a (at least comparatively) very good deal, Big Finish still doesn't interest me much. If I want to experience the Sixth Doctor's adventures, I'll watch the actual canon adventures again, not listen to the licensed fan fiction, even if some of it is good (although they could use some lessons in writing companions, especially whoever created that idiot Charley). They'll never beat the best of what we got on TV.

i absolutely hated the 6th Doctor's tv adventures. to me, his best stories are all Big Finish ones. Big Finish is not 'less real' than the tv series.

Listened to Dominion the other night with the new Master, which for some reason made me wonder about how River and the Valeyard would get along?

 Everyone has different opinions. To me, the 6th Doctor had some great TV adventures, along with one or two garbage stories (although McCoy had more bad TV stories then Colin Baker, and even Baker's worse were still better than junk like Time and the Rani or Curse of Fenric). The 6th is my favorite Doctor because of his TV adventures.

Six's run on TV is the worst of all the Doctors, though Seven comes close. I prefer his Trial season over his 22nd, as its more consistent and there's a mystery there, despite being mostly mishandled. But the point is, Five's era was already a dissapointment, Six's was the final nail of JNT/Saward's gross misunderstanding of the character and his sense of adventure.

Big Finish at least gave a damn and invested time and effort to make the stories and characters (Six and Evelyn) matter for the stories that lie ahead. They are the most unique set of travellers because they complement each other. And beyond Evelyn, a lot of Six's run, while not perfect, still manages to develop Six nicely and overall enrich him in many ways. And the stories, naturally, much better.

Jubilee alone is better than any of his TV stories, easily.

It all comes down to opinion, i guess. I personally count the 7th Doctor's run as the worst. There are several 7th Doctor stories I'd never rewatch, but I'd rewatch all of the 6th Doctor's stories, even Timelash. Could the 6th Doctor have had better stories? Of course. His era was unfortunately a poor one for the show. But, what he got was usually at least ok, and The Doctor himself usually elevated the weak or bad stories to watchable. His run did have some gems. Attack of the Cybermen is just great, and on a personal level The Two Doctors was awesome, since it was a solid story that teamed up my favorite Doctor and my second favorite Classic Who Doctor. I doubt "Jubilee" could approach either of those. End of the Line from The Last Adventure box set almost did , to be fair, but not quite. Honestly, Timelash and Remembrance of the Daleks are the only 6th Doctor tv stories I'd call terrible (although I'll admit that The Twin Dilemma isn't very good, even if I do like it).

I get why a lot of people have problems with his TV run, but I still enjoy it a lot. He's my favorite Doctor because of his TV run, after all. I'd have loved to seen more of The 6th Doctor with a producer who was more talented and a BBC that wasn't run by someone who hated both the show and (apparently) Colin Baker. But, we got what we got. Colin Baker deserved a lot better, but unfortunately he didn't get it. I'm glad Big Finish is around so that Colin Baker and other old Doctors can keep making money off of the show. But, I don't generally consider it a legitimate part of the franchise, at least when it comes to what I count as official Doctor Who. No one has to agree, but to me Big Finish is just licensed non canon stories, no more important or canon than any of the fan fiction I could pull up with a quick google search.

I didn't think to post it here but Humble Bundle recently had a collection of Big Finish Doctor Who. First time I've ever listened to any but my first one was Death's Deal.

This?

That's part ten of an 11 part story.

Each installment is about a different Doctor, dealing with a component of the same problem, after receiving "orders" from 11 to Bill and Ted some specifics, so that 11 will be ready for war way, way, way down the line.

It's also one actor/actress telling a story.

The monthly range, and a few other ranges of Big Finish have 5 to nearly a dozen actors and actresses working on any one story, excluding the Doctor, and their companion/s.

I'm not saying that a big/full cast is always better than a solo act, it's just different methods of story telling that effect the listener differently, but you've hardly seen the full court press yet either.

:)

The 8th Doctor Adventures... I wish that they could have been a TV series instead but the audio stories are better then nothing!

That's the one. I think there are a couple of others in the series there too.

Cyberman parts 1-4
Destiny of the Doctor: Death's Deal and The Time Machine
The Fearmonger
The Genocide Machine
Land of the Dead
The Martian Conspiracy
Phantasmagoria
Red Dawn
The Sirens of Time
Torchwood: The Conspiracy
Whispers of Terror
The Worlds of Big Finish

Were all included in the bundle. I just picked one at random.

The 8th Doctor Adventures... I wish that they could have been a TV series instead but the audio stories are better then nothing!

The (original first four seasons of the) 8th Doctor Adventures, kicked the sorry ass of the last 2 seasons of the TV show.

I'd say TNEDA are better than the entirety of Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi's run put together. Superb companion in Lucie Miller and superior stories and consistency all around. Take THAT, Moffat.

Six did very well by Big Finish. Him and Eight is what sold me on them as a company. I'm currently giving Five ago with Erimem, and I'm not sold. Maybe it's Nekromantea and Axis of Insanity straight after each other, but I've had to take a break. Though I'm now getting close to trying again.

I like listening to Five and Peri, but its so-so. Six and Evelyn was at its best, Eight with Charley and then Eight with Lucie was great too.

Still, the best Big Finish story still is, ironically much like Classic Who, a Fifth Doctor one: Spare Parts.

That's a good point, the few of just Peri and Five I've listened to I have really enjoyed. It was Mission of the Viyrans, along with Urgent Calls and Sirens of Time, that properly hooked me on Big Finish.

So it took a Nyssa/Tegan trilogy, a multi-Master trilogy, and a Mel/Ace trilogy, but I finally broke down and got a Doctor Who subscription today. (Already been subscribing to the excellent Pathfinder stories.)

In the company of friends. It was my first taste of Fitz as a companion and it left me a bit bewildered as I had no idea who he was until I looked him up.

Oh, and one Lost Story you should definitely listen to is The First Sontaran. Its a brilliant origin story for the Sontarans, which via BF is now canon (its one of Starky's favorite stories).
