Last Classic Who Story you watched

It's not the LAST (because I went on to rewatch the last few eps of The Armageddon Factor just for Drax's godawful accent, Shapp collapsing after being shot with his gun sticking up suggestively and K-9 stuff. Oh and the Doctor going mad with power) but The Stones Of Blood.

I'd never actually watched it (thanks iPlayer!!) but re-read the book a lot. The book had the Ogri as more rounded stones that rolled along, so the shuffling towers seem a bit silly, but otherwise they are presented as a serious threat - and K-9's near-fatal damage after chasing one down is heartbreaking to see.

It's heavily implied that Vivian and Emilia get up to lesbionics in their little cottage, so fair play to the show for not only implying that, but also the massive age gap (Cessair is nearly 4000 years old - no wonder she's amused at this mere kid of a Time Lord trying to interfere!).

"Dalek 63*88" presents an intriguing deep dive into the writing process of "The Celestial Toymaker" debunking some distorted history that has evolved around the production. (Be aware the video runs nearly an hour.) It nay not be everybody's cup of tea, but I quite enjoy this kind of investigative reporting about a favorite topic.

I watch this channel on the regular, it’s like the old Andrew Pixley DWM articles in video form. It’s great.

Odd. Since they were mistaken for ancient megaliths, the more Stonehengey appearance from the serial seems more appropriate.

Although we now know the Doctor is perhaps far, far older than he believed he was at the time.

Watched The Space Museum. The first episode was interesting, with the TARDIS crew being out of sync with time and discovering that they potentially had a bad future coming soon. But after episode 1 things became just kind of boring, with the cast wandering around the most boring version of a space museum possible, run by boring aliens and without much to hold the audiences attention. We get a few good moments from The Doctor and Vicki, but overall the story mostly felt like a waste of time.

This is an interesting find that popped up on my YouTube feed and I wasn't sure where else to post it. This seems like as appropriate a place as any.

The straight to video 1995 Doctor-less adventure "Downtime", featuring Sarah Jane Smith, the Brigadier, Victoria Waterfield and the first appearance of Kate Lethbridge-Stewart on what appears to be an official channel for the movie (or I wouldn't have posted it). I saw a low quality bootleg copy of Downtime once on Vimeo about 10 years ago, and couldn't find it again a few months later.

If I'm being completely honest, I have very little recollection of this movie. However when Kate mentioned fighting Yeti in "The Giggle", this was the first thing I thought of.

ETA: That was... OK. Definitely less than good but not terrible given that it was a mid-90s straight to video effort with obviously zero budget. I'm sure it was like ambrosia in the wilderness years.

The story really made me wish we got more solo adventures from the Brigadier before Nicholas Courtney passed.

I must say I enjoy the thought of Kate and Sarah Jane not just knowing each other but sharing an adventure together. That said, there wasn't enough Sarah Jane in the story. Of course, there could have been more Sarah Jane in the story and there still wouldn't have been enough Sarah Jane in the story.

Interestingly, especially since I just rewatched the story, it both has a reference to and contradicts Pyramids of Mars. Sarah Jane mentions the dress that she wore in that arc and how the Doctor said it used to belong to Victoria and how she believed that the Victoria in this story was the same woman. At the same time, it has Sarah Jane saying that she's a rotten shot with a gun when we saw her nail a bullseye in Pyramids of Mars.

Also, Kate not knowing what her father did in this story doesn't quite track with Kate telling the Doctor that he used to tell her stories about him. Perhaps he started telling those stories after this adventure.

I like this a lot. I count this as part of the Sixth Doctor era (don't ask me why, lol). I honestly think this is pretty good, all things considering.

Perhaps he was talking but she wasn't listening?

"Enough talking about the Doctor, dad! What about me?"

I'm in it. The chillies who get turned into Yeti. Chris Barry volunteered anyone who looked like a student, as he realised he couldn't use any of the extras who were in the finale he'd shot the previous day..

They even got Jack Watling back for this, which just goes to show you that the aging makeup from the original serial was so good i thought the actor was really that old or near being that old. Ha

Also in Neil Gaiman's A short Film About John Bolton. But had a beard then.
Basically, Neil rang up saying he wanted people from lots of magazines, but not people who looked odd (so transgender, a bit iffy now). The actress (Carolyn Backhouse I think) thought I and Colin Greenland were brothers, but our imprvo discussion wasn't used. At the launch do Neil said I tried to cut you out, but couldnt.

FWIW I know a lot of gransgender people, but only two who have transitioned while I knew them (the others I only knew after). One is very insulted by dead naming, the other has an attitude of 'Can't expect people who knew me then not to remember that.'

Walked up Waverlry Mountain with Pat Watling (his wife, and a small hill made of of spoil, but still the highest bit of very flat Norfolk. Waverley terrace was demolished in 2005).

it was small, but created an ampihtheare lower down. (already a superb play. Made the fairies threatening). I briefly suggested that we shoot midsummers night dream there . didnt happen, which is a pity as cast would have been martin, molly, tamara and james frain, who at the time seemed a much less likely star then the very charismatic Martin.
