Last Action Hero (1993).

EmmanuelZorg

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I Don't understand it, this movie did bad at the box-office in 1993 with critics and audiences yet it has gained a cult following. I thought it was a very entertaining and hilarious fun satire on action movies and cinema which people missed the point of this movie thinking it would be a serious Arnold action flick.

I enjoyed this since i was 12 in 1993 seeing it in a theater.

I liked what they were trying to do, but I think it fell a bit flat. Plus, it was the summer of Jurassic Park, so it didn't make a lot of money.

I always enjoyed this one. You may be right about people thinking it was going to be a straight action movie.

I love the movie, it's sense of humor, and the quirky characters. It was actually one of very first things I added to my DVD collection.

I knew where it was trying to go, but unfortunately it wasn't able to make it there. Too bad you couldn't remake this movie now. There is no larger-than-life Sly or Arnold these days.

What I remember most is that Arnold was supposed to show up at LA's monthly comic book show at the Shrine Auditorium--was 2 hours late, stayed 15 minutes, then didn't sign autographs as promoted.

My Mom enjoys the film.

I guess Arnie has a history of mistreating Californians. Now where is my IOU Cali Government!?!?!?

I love MOST of this movie. I think it loses a lot of it's energy when it shifts gears in the third act and enters the "real world", but the first two thirds are hilarious.

I liked it OK. It's not as good as T2 or True Lies, but it's very humorous and worth watching at least once. People just misunderstood the fine line the film was trying to walk, genre speaking.

I liked the movie and don't understand the total hate for it. Last Action Hero really was a victim of that summer of '93. It's not the best of movies, but it has its moments. I like it's take on the action movie genre, and Arnie has some decent moments.

One of the missed opportunities of the movie, however, was when Slater goes to the "real world". When her first gets there, he realizes that things don't work like they do in the movies, but this aspect seems quickly dropped in the climax. Slater is doing things just like he would in the movie world. It would have been cool to actually see how this movie character could function in the "real world".

Of course the movie was directed by John "Die Hard" McTiernan, and he certainly has done better.

I liked it a lot. I always thought of it as a comedy that had heaps of action rather than an action flick with comedy.

And while I don't normally do this, it has to be said:
Neriah Davis...

I haven't actually seen the movie, but I did read the novelization for some reason. It was pretty good.

"To be or not to be...not to be!"

I've never understood the bad rep this films gets. I do agree that the real world bits don't quite work as well, but on the whole its a fun film.

Vastly underrated movie - I think it bombed because most of the audience expected a straight-up Arnie action movie, and the ones who knew it was a spoof expected something like The Naked Gun.

It still kicks the shit out of the more critically-acclaimed Purple Rose of Cairo

Better movie than Jurassic Park.

I think there's the HUDSON HAWK curse. Even though Bruce Willis rose to fame as a smart-ass jokester on Moonlighting, the success of DIE HARD (which he ironically seemed cast against type) propelled him to action hero icon. Audiences knew Arnold as an action star who made action movies with one-liners, they weren't ready for self-satire wrapped in a fantasy plot. (But they ate up True Lies, which was farce disguised as a real action movie.)

So, I blame, you, the American public. Fuck your fucking CGI dinosaurs.
