unfortunately, and i hate to admit it, but i can relate to that. except i simply call mine the work bag. and its contents vary from computer stuff to car parts (yes, car parts. i'm serious.)

on a sidenote: Murse?

Murse = Man Purse.

No. I cannot get mine to venture into it. Whenever he asks for something I tell him to go in and get it. This is always followed by him bringing me the bag by one strap -as if it were a polecat trying to bite him - and puts the whole bag into my lap to rummage for wanted article.

I get this, too. It's like they're frightened what they might find. Like The Secret Sisterhood Book, or something!

As I've said to other people: I've been in the room for the birth of two kids now, it isn't like a purse has anything I haven't seen by now.

As a guy I feel its my duty to point out that 95% of men will quickly peruse this thread in noseyness, furthermore expect at least one comment, relating to "Marital Aids"...anyway I'm fascinated at the kind of things people won't leave the house without, especially when much of it is useless, I'm sure we're all guilty of it at least some point

I defy you to find one useless thing in my handbag! :)

I have a shoulder bag that I use a lot and I'd probably be surprised at half the stuff in there if I bothered to look through it all. :rommie: Off the top of my head, there are two books, a binder with a bunch of my stories, poems and art, several USB cords and adapters, my gorilla tripod, my checkbook, my season tickets to Company Theater, my portable hard drive, battery charger, spare rechargeable batteries and some homemade DVDs.

My pockets aren't so bad: Keys in the left front, money and jump drive in the right front, wallet in the right rear and my camera in the left rear.

My husband is one of those rufty tufty types who would never carry a bag. However if you searched his pockets and belt you would find two mobile phones (one work one private) a fancy combination tool with a knife, pliers and other stuff, half a kilo of smash, a wallet so stuffed with mysterious cards it looks ready to burst, various tissues all used and some ancient, various 'useful things' like a 3 amp fuse, screws, a spark plug, a flash drive, etc.

I couldn't bear carrying all the stuff around most of you do. I never carry a bag. All I need when I go out is a wallet, keys, phone, a pen and a white cotton handkerchief and they all fit in my pockets. I guess it helps that I usually have a proper jacket on, so the inside pockets can take the wallet, pen and the phone, leaving the keys and the hanky to my trouser pockets, but still... if I don't have a jacket, I don't take the wallet, but just take out the 2-3 cards I'll need that day and some notes, and put them into a slim credit-card holder, and take the phone out of its case. Then everything can fit in trouser pockets.

I just hate carrying stuff around. I even reduced my (already fairly limited) wallet contents out recently, so as not to carry around some loyalty cards for places I hardly ever go to.

Netflix envelope on its way to the mailbox
switchplate cover and receipt on their way to Home Depot
phone
Filofax (calendar, phone numbers, debit card, cash, Cross pencil, etc.)
Cross pen
rx sunglasses
pillbox containing one ibuprofen and a few of an rx med
comb
1 oz lotion
tinted lip balm
shopping bag
spare car key (I usually clip my other keys to my belt/waistband or put them in a pocket.)

I see it's now OK for us guys to participate...

I have this small back pack that I use to carry most smaller things that need carrying around; groceries and other small purchases (and empties the other way of course), but also the things I might need when anywhere for more than a couple of hours:

  • reading glasses
  • sun glasses
  • wet tissue to clean glasses
  • breath-mints (actually these are licorice!)
  • battery pack
  • cable to connect phone w. battery pack (or other USB device)
  • cable to connect phone w. TV
  • pencil
  • sticky notes
  • lighter
  • tissues
  • chapstick
  • (last time they updated the law I noticed that my pocket knife was too long to be legal :( so I'm not carrying that one around any more...)
  • Paracetamol

I used to also carry:
  • front light for bicycle
  • back light for bicycle
  • x-tra batteries for bicycle lights
  • air pump
  • repair-kit
