I have in my handbag the following

a paperback novel
a very small note pad
a pen
my wallet
reading glasses
sun glasses
sun screen lotion
deodorant
a small first aid kit
a very small torch
my house keys
a small packet of tissue
2 panty liners
my smallest camera
2 foldable shopping bags
asthma inhaler
pain killers
bus timetable
small hairbrush

Making lists is about all I am capable of mentally at the mo, so here goes:

-sunglasses
-AM New York and Metro papers, for the crosswords
-Great Expectations
-planner
-wallet
-a half a dozen or so pens
-keys
-a flash drive
-lipstick
-chapstick
-lotion
-a compact mirror
-a tampon
-stickers (for my students)
-iPod
-glucometer and insulin
 
My keys, my phone, my wallet (with bankcards/IDs/cash), one lip balm, one lipstick, a pack of gum, sunglasses and roughly twenty billion disorganized receipts.
 
I prefer a very small purse (or none at all really). At the moment I have my wallet, a couple of library and discount cards, a pen, a small notepad, and a mini lotion bottle.

- tiny hairbrush
- European money for some reason
- all the hair clips that have gone missing from elsewhere in the house
- cough drops from ten colds ago
- emergency bandaids that are so old they look like they themselves need bandaids
- lipbalm I never use
- keys => 1 car key, 3 house keys, and 1,000 useless keys
 
Wallet, keys, feminine hygene products, my little digital camera (not really little, it is a Canon powershot), my iPod, phone, sunglasses, chapstick, lip gloss, pen, pencil, sharpie, and a little booklet.

small pill bottle with aspirin and allergy meds.
a small bottle of sunscreen
a coupon for Bed, Bath & Beyond
a pair of leather gloves for winter

--all in a medium-sized shoulder bag.

As a guy I feel its my duty to point out that 95% of men will quickly peruse this thread in noseyness, furthermore expect at least one comment, relating to "Marital Aids"...anyway I'm fascinated at the kind of things people won't leave the house without, especially when much of it is useless, I'm sure we're all guilty of it at least some point

Maybe not, but so many people do carry around useless stuff, I for one have a bad habit of leaving reciepts in my pockets for weeks, even though they serve no purpose, except for making sure I have something to fiddle with
