    I was thinking of this:
Where it does look like the nacelles and outer engines are raised a bit to adjust the clearance, but I'm fairly sure they're actually static.
Because at that point, the design still had the wings straight across the top.
Which in the final design would look like this:

As opposed to what we actually got, namely the wings sloping downwards like this:
So as far as I can tell, the engine pots are static in all of these concepts, they only adjust based on the angle of the entire wing.

But even so, the engines always looked like they were on hinges, so it's entirely possible this was intended and simply never realized.

Don't remember seeing it in S1.
It's subtle but they absolutely do tilt back up as it powers down
The shot in question is after Picard speech - cut to La Sirena coming into frame...

^I think any movement there is an optical illusion. It' is too miniscule to think it serves any function and I don't see it at all in reverse.

Hm, I see it. But it is very subtle.
From the comments Brian Tatosky (VFX Supervisor) made on twitter, I understood that having them move was in fact the VFX-team's intention. (At least he didn't contradict that they are moving.)

I suppose the reasoning in universe might be that they're in the process of coming to a full stop, so the bigger part of the movement would have happened earlier?

Kaplan F17s seem to be the common fighter ships of the Confederation

I can't quite make it out, but the Confederation version of La Sirena appears to have a registry on the dorsal side, something like NCx-03x21.

    My current best guess is
    "C.S.S. La Sirena"
With registry NCC 93131 (and the mermaid art) on the roof and wing.
But we'll see if that turns out correct ^.^"

It looks like the first digit is an 8? 83131?

Could the Mermaid be below the name registry? That could imply that it's still called La Sirena.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the Mermaid nose art redesigned for the new version.

and the name is also on the starboard nacelle, where it's a bit clearer and does seem to say "CSS La Sirena"

I hope Dave Blass (the production designer) will give us a cleaner look at the name and registry and art when he posts BTS things tomorrow.

Also, it's impossible to tell if the ship already had a registry in "The Star Gazer" aka the Prime timeline. Maybe this was introduced with the livery change.

Good point, we saw very little of her outside in that episode, so we don't know if they added a registry number in the Prime timeline.

Though thinking about it, I kinda doubt Seven would have registered her for use with the Fenris Rangers. So the only other possibility would be that in the aftermath of the Coppelius affair, someone told Rios to register his damn ship - and he actually turned around and did it.
Which... I'm honestly not sure he would at this point.

Not a single ship in any show, really. Even the Enterprise has to give way to that one.

I noticed they didn't use any of the holographic controls on the forward consoles yet. Rios still had his, but that's it.

I did notice they've cut down. It's a shame, I thought they were awesome in the 2009 Countdown comic and in Picard S1, and would have loved to see them hovering over consoles on the Stargazer.

    Perhaps it's a budgetary thing.

I think it's more that it got some bad press after the first season for being lazy. It's apparently not particularly expensive effects-wise.

If a show drastically changes it's look based on a nerd posting on Youtube, we are all screwed.
