I think the greatest sin that Terry Matallis (blessed be his name) committed against Star Trek fans was in convincing them that this "Captain Seven" show was ever a thing that was going to happen.

I mean, I’d be quite surprised if it did happen but never say never.
A year ago if someone told me that Scott Bakula and Mike Sussman had been in negotiations with suits at Paramount for a West Wing-type Trek series about President Archer I'd have been very skeptical if not dismissive of the claim. But that actually happened.
If we have a better shot of getting a political procedural set in the late 22nd century than a Seven of Nine and Jack Crusher action show set in the early 25th then I say good. The former sounds more original and interesting.

The problem I have with all the ideas about ways to take Star Trek in interesting new directions is that I didn't watch the West Wing, I don't watch medical dramas, I don't watch school dramas, I watch space shows about teams of ultra-competent space adventurers trying to find moral solutions to space problems. If they can make a Star Trek spin-off about that then I'll give it a shot for sure, otherwise I'll just wait for Stargate to come back.
Well, I also like Invincible, Vox Machina, Mission: Impossible... but I've seen what happens when they try mixing Star Trek with M:I, and I really don't need a Star Trek show about magic or superheroes.

I'm not sure if "ultra competent" is realistic or even applicable. Even Spock was shown to foul up in a major way in Balance of Terror, when he accidentally sent the signal that revealed the Enterprise's location to the Romulan ship. Flaws are what make characters interesting. As Kirk said, "we learn by doing", and we don't "do" and we don't "learn" without making mistakes.

Mike Sussman: Oh, ok, well, thanks for listening.
Yeah they had like one meeting and nothing happened. It's like Takei trying to get his Captain Sulu show going, or the Rikers sitcom, or the Captain Worf show.
The fact that Sussman is telling everyone is evidence enough that it'll never happen.

He never said it was going to happen. He said there was no show. He had ideas where a potential continuation might go but he has always reiterated that it was not a thing.
I remember how in the 80's political commentators still had to figure out who was in favor or in power in Moscow by who was invited to the review stand at the May Day parade and where they stood in relation to each other.
I'm going to say by the 60th Anniversary intro, PIC and possibly LDS are fallen out of favor.
He heavily implied that if the fans pestered CBS to make it, they would cave in and make it. Just like what Goldsman tried to do with that Year One bullshit.
Remember when Archer was the worst captain ever and Bakula was horribly miscast?
I personally never thought Bakula was miscast, since his acting ability was not in question. But he could only do what the idiot UPN writers and producers wanted him to do.
