It's also a lot easier for them: by making the conquered people's gods into Roman gods a celebration in honour of the native god becomes a celebration of a Roman one.

"You thought you were celebrating Zeus? lol! You're celebrating Jupiter."

(As an aside, one of my favourites, the early Christians later very sucessfully employed similar tactics)

That's right, I completely forgot Still, it was much more mature on their part, finding parallels with each other and agree to these, instead of now that every religion Highlanders itself saying "There could be only one"...
 
And perhaps the humans or the Feds did the choosing? Nothing necessitates Kronos being the Klingon name for the place, not in the world of Universal Translators.

Quite true. It's not like the Chinese actually call their country "China" when speaking their own language. That's just what we call it in English.
True, quite often its a neighbor or trading partner that we get the "name" from. Or sometimes something totally unrelated!
