Spoilers Krall's Seemingly Inconsistent Appearance

Just saw it today, and I'm confused:

Why exactly did Krall morph from a human to whatever he was? And why did he have to suck people's life force [subtle, unintentional Patrick Stewart ref!] to survive? That rings too close to ST: Insurrection.... Anyway, I felt this was poorly explained.

He's using alien tech to artificially extend his life. he takes on traits from the people whose lifeforce he drains. until rently he only had aliens to draw from, near the end of the movie he had drawn from enough humans that he started looking like himself again.

I'm glad the movie
didn't subject us to a bunch of technobabble gibberish exposition to explain this in detail. The one line about alien technology, and the visible changes were enough to show what was going on.

I didn't catch that in the movie, but its so obvious now you have said it. I do think Krall / Elba was a little under-developed, but I always miss something on a first showing.

I am so happy I bailed on reading this thread before the spoiler dropped. For me, not being spoiled on that plot point made for a very satisfying conclusion to the film.

Watching the movie, I had just about given up on the film being about anything other than an escape drama then pow, right in the kisser. :ouch:

I was spoiled on this point by that recent trailer showing the video footage from the USS Franklin.
