J Class Training Cutter

specially designed with all of the major systems (and many of the minor ones) of a full-fledged starship, with damage/failure subsystems under training officers' control. for hands on training.

I love the mixture of styles on this one, with the Antares-inspired saucer rim and the TMP-style impulse engines on an otherwise very Daedalus-like vessel. the only thing I actively dislike are the Bussard collectors. imo they should just be the full diameter of that flat bit at the front of the nacelles and not stick out that far forward either. but that's just me. :)

i based it on a ship seen in a comic (the kind of ship Pike had his accident on) but interpreted it as a training-specific ship instead of an old one repurposed. so it is contemporaneous with the Constitution class, but deliberately a little more primitive, and stripped down to it's more basic functions; and also with equipment designed to induce failure states, so that's kind of how i am rationalizing things like the offset bussards.
