Koko the Gorilla

I knew about Koko and her death. Unfortunately, I did not share your adoration of her, in the sense that I found her use of sign language to be rather like word salad, rather than actual communication. I also believe that these experiments that were pushed on her kept her from being able to be properly mated with other gorillas, as they viewed her as abnormal, perhaps. But, I suppose the effort had to be made to answer the question: "Can we truly communicate with other species?" I believe the attempt can make us much more sensitive to how they commune and, in turn, give us a better guide as to how to manage them in the wilds.

I totally disagree about the "word salad" thing, but that's not the point here anyway.
The world became a darker place, without her. She was so gentle, empathetic and funny. She had such a sense of humour ! I've wanted to meet her my whole life. She was a role model to me, she was more human than most humans out there.
