Man, I think Monty Python quoters, in general, are the worst. The slightest little thing sends them off into endless sketch or scene quoting, and they expect everyone in the world to know every line from every sketch or film, and if you don't, they give you funny looks, or start questioning how much you love Python. I mean, I like a bit of Python as much as the next guy, and sure, I know a few quotes myself, but I haven't memorised every sketch or scene ever in the history of Python, so that I can start quoting it like a loon for half an hour the minute anyone says "Care for a wafer thin mint?".

Well I am certainly not like this nor have a met a single Monty Python fan who is.

90% of the time I quote Monty Python it is between my two sons and me. The other 10% is probably on this board, but only when it is appropriate, and enough people gets the reference to make it worthwhile my time. I certainly don't know every line from every sketch (in fact I don't know the TV show well enough to quote very often) nor do I expect everyone to get understand the quote and I certainly don't belittle them when they don't. My quotes are usually limited to a one-liner though occasionally I continue if someone responds to the quote - like Spaceman Spiff did in this thread.

Don't take it personally. I've just never met a Python fan who doesn't erupt into quotes whenever the show is mentioned. God help us all if anyone mentions the name "Brian" in front of them, or should you happen to be called Brian then all of a sudden you're "not the messiah", you're "a very naughty boy". Get some originality for Christ's sake. Monty Python is funny as hell, but some peole seem to excel at sucking the fun out of it, turning it into a tedious recreation that seems to amuse no-one but themselves.

I was at a friends house once, at a small party, and someone put a CD on with a bunch of Python songs on it. Loads of people started singing along, except for a few of us. I sat there with a smile on my face just enjoying a beer and tapping my feet along to the music, when all of a sudden I'm asked "what's the matter, don't you like Monty Python?". Apparently, because I don't know all the words to all the songs, I mustn't be a fan.

I know, it sounds like I really dislike Monty Python fans. I don't, I just seem to have met all the dickhead ones who annoy the piss out of everyone with it, and think that everyone should be a Python quote machine.

Never met anyone like in the OP, but my sister and I have been known to start quoting stuff if a film comes up in conversation. Our favorites are Airplane!, Spaceballs, and Anchorman. And if anyone in the family says "Surely", someone else will say "Don't call me Shirley".


Don't get me started on Monty Python. My dad's favorite bit from Holy Grail is "I fart in your general direction". And he does. I bought him lounge pants with the quote all over them.

Hiya, folks.

We had dinner tonight with friends, and it finally dawned on me why I want to beat them both to death after each visit: no matter what topic is brought up, they will always relate it to a tv show, movie, or commercial.

We get something along the lines of, "Oh, it's just like on 'The Simpsons!'" every time.

Well, that hit a bit too close to home! I've always joked that my autobiography could be titled, "It's Like in that Simpsons Episode: The Scott Saslow Story."

I do this all the time with friends - though one got sick of my constant Seinfeld references ("It's like in that one episode...") and I have toned it down. But he and I still do Star Trek II and Back to the Future quotes and analogies like nobody's business!

My cousin is having problems with her house (contractor BS) and I actually said, "It's like in The Naked Gun when Ricardo Montalban (who plays the villain) says, 'And to think, I spent three years as a building contractor.'" I don't think my folks got it.

I have known several people who quote Monty Python frequently. It doesn't bother me, though, because I find it funny; in fact, I wish I could remember more quotes to use myself.

Well killing people in real life aint like in the movies. All the Iraqis I shot didnt grab their chest, spurt blood all over the place and cry for their mama. All they did was collapse on the ground and lay there.

Well, you certainly wouldn't have wanted to hang with me and my Napkinhead crew on our regular Thursday-night dinner gatherings. If it wasn't Monty Python, it was Star Trek, Young Frankenstein, Airplane or any of a dozen other cultural milestones.

We closed more restaurants...

Sometimes I find myself telling people to "stifle" like Archie Bunker says in All in the Family. And I use the words "Frak Me" from NBSG sometimes as well..but that's as far as it goes.
