It's still early yet to see how the stories will play out. This isn't a "hard reboot" but rather what I'd define as a "soft reboot", not too dissimilar from what happened between the TV movie and the series premiere.

I never expected Torres to last the season, mostly because I think his story was meant to end when Mike learns more about his past, bringing the two at odds. I agree that Charles Graiman's character needs to remain. However, just because he doesn't appear in every episode, it doesn't mean he won't be brought back as a guest star now and then. We can't assume they're going to kill the only character link they have to the original series at the moment. That said, I did feel kind of bad over how little Graiman was utilized over the past five episodes.

In terms of real life economics, I'll bet you letting go of Billy and Zoe's characters would probably still have not saved the money that Bruce D. was making. In that respect, it makes sense to hang onto those two characters and hopefully make them stronger and more integral to the show.

Losing Rivai surprises me on one level, but does not on another. On the one hand, she was in the original movie and would have been a good female lead to have "on the field" with Mike. However, since they clearly want that role to go to Sarah, it makes sense they're letting her go.

It is a shame that this is happening. At the same time however, despite how much I love this show, I knew the cast was bloated from the get go and reducing it doesn't surprise me, only the choices do.

I assume they dont mean a total reset, just changing the show a little bit. Which lets be honest happens to plenty of shows in there first series.

I wouldn't worry about the casting changes. I'm sure they'll give KITT three new modes in order to compensate -- Segway, golf cart and pogo stick.

Yep, which is why I said "soft". It's not too dissimilar from the change from the TV movie to the series. I just hope it helps!

The original show went through a less radical revamp after its initial 13 episodes. The most noticeable changes were the soundtrack, due to the change in composers, and KITT's voice modulator, which changed from the blinking red square to the now-signature three-bar design.

I believe that was due to fan feedback concerning the first time KARR appeared, since KARR had the three-bar modulator.

I still think Billy and Zoe add absolutely nothing to the show and should be shown the door. They're irritating.

I suppose it's possible, but it seems unlikely that feedback from Knight Rider fans in 1982 or 1983 persuaded producers to change KITT's squawk box. Whether or not fans snail-mailed such opinions, it seems more likely that Robert Foster just thought the three-bar design looked more interesting.

Yeah. I'm hoping they revamp their characters. Truthfully I would have let go of Rivai, Torres, Zoe and Billy and kept Charles. I'm almost curious if Bruce Davidson wanted to leave after seeing the show wasn't a huge hit. ::shrug::

^ I wouldn't be surprsed if that were the case. Same goes for Poitier. The two of them don't need this show and the show doesn't need them. As much as I like them and their characters, they don't do much and it looks like it's tough to find something for them to do.

Billy and Zoe are great to have around though. They add some fun and a bit of comic relief and I'd hate to see them go.

Well, I'll school you on some ancient history (known as when I was a teen). People called or wrote the studios to voice an opinion. Back then, even though the Neilson ratings pretty much ruled if shows lived or died, fans would go on letter writing campaigns if there was word a show's future was in jeopardy. Knight Rider was deemed a "popular holdover" based on the amount of mail received from fans, hence the reason is was renewed for a second season. ;)

Believe it or not, there was effective communication before the InterWeb Thingy.

4 things...

1.) I could do without the Billy character. He's a Cliché of every nerd stereotype that ever existed.

2.) Zoe comes off as a tease, which in this case, I don't like much. Either make out with Billy or don't. Quit giving him false hope just dash said hope for your own amusement. A woman who does that to a man is the worst form of whore.

3.) Torres hasn't been a really interesting character, either. He always came off sounding like a dick to me. Maybe that comes with his job but, it still doesn't make for good TV.

4.) Ravai and Graiman should stay. Their characters actually make sense. Someone has to be the liason between the FBI & Knight Industries. Someone had to design/continually upgrade the new KITT.

I was alive way back in the 20th century as well, so I also remember the dark time era before SMTP and HTTP.

I'm not arguing that there was no effective pre-Web communication, or that fans didn't have some degree of influence on a TV show; however, I would argue that, with rare exception, their influence was marginal, just as it is now.

Star Trek's renewals, the first orchestrated by Harlan Ellison, the second by Bjo Trimble, both with more than slight help from Gene Roddenberry, are well known. Having said that, I've never seen evidence to substantiate a claim that Knight Rider's renewal for a second season was motivated by anything other than its ratings. I also doubt that fan letters would have been a key motivation behind changing KITT's "face." Robert Foster changed many aspects of the show when he came aboard. Although I have no evidence to support my claim, it seems reasonable that KITT's face lift resulted from Foster's influence.

I was surprised Rivai didn't turn out to be 'the killer' during the last episode. She's been totally underused.

Torres is unlikable, only showing up to bitch and moan.

Not sure about their thoughts in terms of Graiman's ties to the original series given the fact that their version of KARR obviously is nothing like the original show's version.

That remains to be seen. We don't know the whole story on KARR yet.

When they were looking up the info on KARR, a series of images came up, the last of which looked like some kind of BattleMech.

The first of which looked like a Gen 3 Pontiac Trans-Am.

So much for a hot steamy lesbo scene with Ravai...

they'll hook up Zoe and Sarah somehow, and find a way for them to lather decon jell in the decon chamber

It was a mustang

I'll admit that after I saw KARR last week (and their decline in ratings) I'm not surprised they're getting a small reboot.
