Klingons

I hope for one that this becomes only the second Trek movie without a single Klingon. It's a huge can of worms which might as well stay sealed until they're required for the story. the end of ENT has pretty much established that it should, in continuity, be largely smooth headed Klingons that appear if any do.

^ No Klingon? Well, remember, David Gerrold said "Throw in a bit of Klingon and then you've got a story"... or something like that. I've always said Dorothy Fontana's idea was better, to throw in Romulans instead.

But, second? I'm assuming you refer to TWOK as the only movie without a single Klingon, as TMP had real Klingons, III had Kruge, Maltz & Co., and IV had a brief bit of Klingon Ambassador protesting.... V had Korrd, Valkris, and what-his-name... VI was about the Klingons... and everything else had Worf. Do we really count Worf in all of those? Q was right about him, he can't even get a shot off most of the time.

ENT's explanation though doesn't rule out ALL ridged Klingons. There could be Chang-like Klingons too...

I always figured Klingons like Chang were smooth-heads who were recovering from the Augment virus they inherited from their ancestors.

It's amazing how Coto managed to tie the Smoothies, Ridged ones and the semi-ridges/semi-smoothies together like that. He's almost like James Robinson with Starman.

He didn't explain the TOS smooth headed Kang, Koloth and Kor showing up on DS9 with ridges though.

Personally I always assume that they had re-constructive surgery of some sort, maybe a response to a change in Klingon fashion that branded smooth headed Klingons as freaks?

I really like that suggestion, very nice nod to TOS - both ST and BSG. All this has happened before..etc
