Personally, I dont like the earings. Makes him look a bit piratey. Yaaaar!

Just make him an evil fucker. The Klingons used to be evil, cruel.

When we do see Klingons again they really have to be re-invented. I think the "honour" thing has been done to death.

I think it would work just fine to use the TOS Klingons. The fact that they are so different from the later Klingons can even be justified as simple as by adding a few lines of dialouge. A Klingon officer is about to brutally murder a Starfleet officer. The Starfleet officer says, "I thought you people fought for honor. Where's the honor in senseless slaughter?", and the Klingon replies with something like, "Honor belongs to those with higher brows than I."
That leaves it ambiguous enough that if they don't elaborate any more than that newbies won't be bothered that they don't understand the line.
