Klingon Armada

Hi.

ADB have recently released a Star Fleet Universe adaptation of Majestic Twelve Games' Starmada game system - and have also printed a run of the core Starmada rulebook, while they were at it.

Klingon Armada comes with the basic Starmada rules in the rulebook, so is enough to get started, but more options are available in the Admiralty Edition ruleset.

KA is designed to follow a similar release template as Federation Commander did not so long ago. The same squadron boxes (of miniatures) that were released for the first two FC releases (Klingon Border and Klingon Attack) are suitable for Klingon Armada - though this system is intended to allow for fleet battles to play out more quickly than Fed Commander does.

That gives you a range of Federation, Klingon, Kzinti, Tholian and Orion ships to kick things off with.

Apparently, the next release will be Romulan Armada, which will itself follow the squadron box layout of Romulan Border and Romulan Attack - i.e. more Federation ships, as well as Gorn and Romulan vessels.

After that, time will tell how things go...

Anyone interested in giving this system a try, or picking up the Starmada book for other use?

The Klingon Armada product page is up, and includes a few sample ship cards - specifically, for the Prime Trader (a deluxe merchant vessel used by civilian and government agencies alike) the Juggernaut (one of the more iconic SFU-original 'monster' ships) and the Planet Killer... which I would hopefully not need to explain in detail on a board like this one.

Well, I got my own copy the other day.

It looks good - the first part is a re-printing of essential game mechanic rules from Starmada, the second a section showing a bunch of SFU-specific rules needed to make the KA ships work the way they are supposed to, and so on.

The ship diagrams come 2 to a page, though while the three units I mentioned earlier as being online (the Planet Killer, Juggernaut and Prime Trader) are listed on the back cover, they are not in the book. But then, you can download and print them for free anyway.

(The diagrams that are in KA aren't free, but the aren't too pricey either. They should make printing out copies easier than trying to scan pages from the book.)

Romulan Armada
should be along in March, which I'll be looking forward to.

Well, it was a bit late - April, rather than March - but Romulan Armada is out. My FLGS got its first batch in recently, and I got my own copy yesterday.

It's got the same starships (sans monsters) that the Federation Commander modules Romulan Border and Romulan Attack had included. That means a set of new Federation ships, three generations of Romulan warships, and a fleet for the Gorns to let them join in the fun.

Also, RMA has the same essential Starmada rules printed in KLA, so you could get started with either.
