I'm watching "Errand of Mercy", and I've had a bit to drink... but hey, I see Kor and the other Klingons as being bumpy-headed violent aliens! Anyone else concur? It's weird, but I sense it's always meant to be this way....

That was my take until the augment bullshit - the Klingon Empire is made up of many planets and many races. No reason the Federation couldn't have been encountering one particular branch during TOS' time.

Kor was quite refined and Kang had some good one-liners. I think Koloth was a grandstanding dunce though. Koloth was more like TNG Klingons with a light coat of Kang. Kor is my favourite though.

I too lament the absence of other klingon and romulan subject races.

It's the very first appearance of the Klingons and, yes, it's good one. John Colicos is great as Kor.
