KKKKHHHHAAAAAAAANNNN! (Legacy)

Frontier

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I drooled, ooh'd and ahh'd over the Kirk and Khan Mutara Nebula Battle video on YouTube from before Legacy was released. I was like, "Frak! Awesome! That's just the ultimate best thing for them to do!"

...:wtf:

And now I find out, finally having bought the damn thing, they didn't include it in the damn game!!!!:klingon:

If you go in and find the music files, you'll find a Khan battle theme, which reminds you a bit of the TWOK battle music. So they obviously went to the near final stage... why not included it? Even if just as a bonus for fun level?

It's included in the game but it's no where near as good as it looks. Many mods "unlock" it and i believe there a command line you can use in a shortcut to the game to start that "mission".

The biggest problems off the top of my head is the map uses the Miranda (pre-refit/tos era), and the enterprise is the ncc-1701a on the map plus the Reliant ai is pretty stupid.

This kind of speaks to the haphazard nature of Legacy's development. Seems like they intended the game to be more of an anthology collection of famous Star Trek battles (plus some kind of ancillary single-player campaign) and then nixed that idea when the original writers were given the boot in favour of D.C. Fontana. Why they didn't just include the anthology stuff as a separate mode, I have no idea.

...man, I hope Bethesda's Fallout 3 team is more focussed than Mad Doc.

They had a ton of stuff that I was very excited about that they removed. I guess most of the story is gone. They were going to give you the ability to upgrade the weapons and internal equipment on the ships you own. They massacred that. I'm willing to bet they had a decent skirmish design on the table at some point, but killed that too. I don't know, it's not a horrible game, but it lacks replayability, which definately makes worth a lot less than I paid for it.

There was even talk at one point on the 360 version of having the khan mission as down loadable content which we would have had to pay for.

Thankfully what was released didnt live long.............fortunately.

Yowz, that would have been an awful idea. A crappy DLC mission for a crappy 360 game?

Of course, that's one of the things that's often bugged me about the 360 (even though I'm a big fan of the console overall). Much of the DLC appears to be content that they just held back from the main release so they could sell it online for a few more bucks.

There are some exceptions, though - the "Shivering Isles" DLC for Oblivion, for example, is a true expansion pack rather than just some crappy new mission.

I d/l'd the demo from XBLA last night and gave it a whirl. Made by the team who made Bridge Commander....very nice. Game itself felt kind of flat. I enjoyed kicking some klingon butt in skirmish mode, but without a story I felt unengaged. Is the single-player storyline decent enough to warrant a purchase?

Also: Why the hell aren't all games available to buy on XBLA? They'd make tonloads of money.

'fraid not. They apparently butchered a perfectly decent story by D.C. Fontana, and it makes absolutely no sense at all in the game.

Rental at most. Mediocre graphics, almost terrible and certainly very bad gameplay. One play through of the campaign was enough for me.

I have tried on numerous occasions to go through this game again on Admiral......but the game freezing the 360 totally at random intervals and then making the 360 sound like its about to take off have convinced me other wise....i mean this game has got to be the worst game technically i have on the 360, i have no idea why it needs to spin the game disc at full speed constantly......take about shoddy optimising.

The game had great potential but it was rushed. Many features where cut, the story was cut (there's some videos included in the game with pictures and voiceovers explaining the story in greater detail) and even then the game clearly wasn't finished. It's a real shame and not just because of the game itself but because it appears to killed of any chances of there being more games. We can only hope the new movie will revive the Star Trek Gaming industry.

Can someone post a pic of the pre-refit miranda? Very curious how they made it look.
