Kirk's Dying Words

Duane

Captain
Captain
I'm sure this has been discussed to death but Kirk's dying words ("It was fun") has to be about the weakest sentence he could have possibly uttered.

Anyone care to write a better one? How about:

Kirk: (with a look of total confusion on his face) "Spoc.....Bone..." (and then he dies)

Technically wasn't it 'Oh my....' something Shatner added because he thought it had a sense of wonder at what he might be looking at, in the great unknown.

Probably should have said something about the undiscovered country, or just 'I'm dead, Bones'. But yeah, lame, and RDM admits it. Here's hoping they undo it in XI.

Yeah, I think you are correct. It was "Oh my." Glad to hear that the writer admits it. Anyway, his Galactica stuff is really quite good.

Still hoping someone posts a better one than my suggestion.

"Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,

Waiting to take you away.

Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,

...And you're gone."

It was a dumb line....

Surely it has been talked to death, oh my, but after all, this is a forum.
The sequence leading to his "death" saving the Enterprise grabbed me better, with Scotty's "Aye..."
But as for his famous last words, I thought Shatner's additon of the "Oh my...." was good. It was his character in the end(at least till next year) and his Captain's perogative to do that. (Requiring a painstaking re-assembly of the set) It was well acted. You can almost see the soul leave the body.
Evoking the great mystery is a dumb line? I don't think so.
I definetly would not have liked to see him die confused and disoriented, even if it were more 'realistic'.

...Nor sharp, focused, and sprouting deep wisdom, even if that were more dramatic.

I liked everything about the end of Kirk, really. The final end, I mean. The original death aboard E-B was too convoluted and troubled by the cast changes.

Kirk: Death. The land from which no traveller returns... (smirks) except me.
