Kirk's death

Generations is brilliant up until Picard entering the Nexus. After that, it could've used a hell of a rewrite.

I thought the whole Enterprise B, scene was underwhealming. Also if those guys were retired, why were they all still in uniform?

I thought it was the best part of the movie. To each their own I guess. But I remember seeing it in the theatre and the older-set, like me, seemed to laugh at the right parts. Most reviews seemed to think Shatner stole his scenes with Stewart; he did.

I loved the Enterprise-B stuff. I wasn't too keen on its Captain, mind. I like Alan Ruck but within the fictional universe I'm not sure they'd hand over the reigns of the Federation flagship to someone a wee bit wet behind the ears.

I've long thought they should have killed off Kirk in TUC. It would have had more meaning, and great irony, if he died in the cause for peace with the Klingons. He could have taken the shot from the sniper when he leaped.

Would have been a right downer of an ending.

Kirk's death is an underwhelming and dull scene which is just ridiculously wrong for such an iconic character.

Compare that to Spock's death in Wrath of Khan.

yeah, but they could have done a flip of Spock's death scene in TWOK...or something...jeez, anything could have been better than what we got. 15 minutes of Shatner singing in a Portapottie would have been better.

Nah...TUC was just fine. If anyone should have stayed dead it was SPOCK from KHAN. TREK 3, though its a good film, totally guts the dramatic ending of Khan. Meyers was correct for not wanting to do that final "REMEMBER" non-sense with Spock/McCoy.

From what I understand it was Nimoy who wanted to bring Spock back. I heard that after they filmed his death he got up and said he was ready for the next movie so they had to do a rewrite of that last scene for the "remember" thing.

He wanted out. So they killed him. Then, like Bret Farve, he wanted back. The remember scene was added later, and Meyers didn't direct it because he thought it gutted KHAN; he was right.

But I can see the studio's desire to bring Spock back. So I see both sides of the house. I saw TREK 2 before I knew Spock was coming back for 3. It was a very sad scene, when considering at the time, he wasn't coming back.

The same thing happens with Picard's scene in SAREK when Sarek inside of Picard. That entire scene, when Sarek takes over Picard's mind, makes it apparent, to me at last, that Spock was considered to be dead. The scene was very powerful, still is, but loses its luster after it is learned Spock is really still alive...and finally appears in UNIFICATION. But at the time, season 3 of TNG, I really felt Spock was dead 'again' after that scene with Picard.

Actually, I think Kirk should have been romped to death by three or four good looking honey's...Then of course we'd have the problem of how get the smile off of Shatner's face!

Leaving aside the merits of Generations overall, or lack thereof, Kirk's death sucked ass because IT DIDN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN. Once it was clear they had failed in the second attempt, they should have just waited a few minutes and TRIED AGAIN.

They have a guaranteed reset button ready made - the Nexus. All they have to do is Groundhog Day their way into killing Saran. Even if Kirk dies, as long as Picard also fails to stop Soran from launching the missile, he can try again. Hell, Picard could have come back into reality at ANY TIME in ANY PLACE and he chooses the shittiest time and shittiest place.

How about showing up on the Enterprise after picking up Soran at the beginning of the movie and blowing him out the airlock?

As a related aside, what happened to the Picard who was already on the planet struggling to overcome Soran on his own. Did the Nexus Picard overwrite him? Did he vanish? Is he hanging out with Tom Riker now, being largely superfluous? WTF?

I'd say Picard tried to stop Soran to save his ship, and kirk helped because while it wasn't HIS enterprise, it was still THE enterprise.

And also, to my knowlage, the Prime Directive prohibits them from interfering with the natural course of event. And rouge asteroid for example. Soran was not a natural event.
