Kirk v Trump

Trump is our Real Life Kirk, taking no crap, putting the welfare of his crew first and foremost, Prime Directive be damned..... balls of steel. Admiral Kirk only wishes he was that productive later in life.

Kirk is the opposite of Trump.
Kirk doesn't molest unwilling women and brag about it afterwards.

And while Trump puts the welfare of his family and business friends above that of his country and everyone else - don't think he cares a whit about any of you redshirts despite what he says.

Neither does Trump. People like Kirk and Trump have swagger and exude power, and know that groupies and such are attracted to that, and with that knowledge can manipulate that (as Kirk has many, many times to gain a tactical advantage), or just enjoy that for the attention that it is. Nowhere in the RL statement has it *ever* said or implied "unwilling" .... but nice spin! "despite what he says" - sorry, your opinion of his statements does not make them fact, and presenting it as such is pretty presumptuous. (although, putting his friends/family above the rules was the whole point ot Trek III, no?) If anything, its hilarious how even if I believed the caricature of President Trump, those qualities can be forgiven in a fictional character but not in real life - racism in Trek VI, womanizing, bending the rules for friends and family, cutting corners, whatever else. Too funny. :)

Sorry I apologise he knew they wanted it without even asking

“I’ve got to use some Tic Tacs, just in case I start kissing her,” Trump says. “You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait.”

Yes there is racism in Star Trek VI and Kirk comes to realise its wrong by the end but I don't think Trump has yet. I'm pretty amazed that Trump can side with neo-Nazis and people still take him seriously.

Kirk risked his career and freedom to save Spock. It was a noble act. Trump appointing his friends and family to high positions and helping his business friends get good deals with overseas countries and tax cuts is not the same.
Trump wouldn't understand about being a hero. He wouldn't even bother to remember a heroes name.

I'm going to have to stop before T'Bonz punches me.

Kirk exists in a post-need society, albeit a more realistic one than TNG, since there is a clear economy running between the outer colony planets who have scarce resources, so his motivations are very different from 21st century businessmen but there are racist elements of empire building that run through much of Trek, even if they do sometimes acknowledge this with their proxy wars e.g. Errand of Mercy. My comparison was only looking at consequences of 'unilateral' decisions affecting local populations rather than the men themselves.

It would be great fun digitally edit Trump into the Savage Curtain including some of his famous quotes but for balance we should probably have a good version and a bad version...

Let the thread go back to sleep...
