Kirk & Marcus - Next Film Thoughts?

Hopefully they'll avoid Kirk/Carol, if we saw Carol in her undies in STID then I shudder to think what they will show in the next film.

On a different note everyone here is saying this is a trilogy and thus the third film is the last JJ universe film. Personally I don't think we should set our sights on a trilogy. If the third film does as well as the other two then we're going to get a fourth film and perhaps even a fifth. Heck, the third film could even be the beginnings of a proper trilogy. They could shoot a back-to-back trilogy over a one year period if they're feeling really ambitious.

Really? Carol in her bra and panties was that horrifying for you? As for STIII, how dare they show adults in a sexual relationship--I mean, I shudder at the horror of the thought.

As for films past three: If they can keep it entertaining, I say bring it on.

They're PG-13 movies. A girl in her underwear is about as risque as they're going to get.

Which is a shame. I'd be interested in a balls-to-the-walls R rated Trek movie with a good, controversial script, that just took the franchise beyond where it's been in terms of the type of story the writers were willing to risk.

But with an R rating, you are limiting your audience and losing the "family oriented entertainment" quality. Entertainment for the entire family.

Yes, Carol in her underwear was so horrible. Its not like Star Trek has EVER had scantily clad women (and men) or Kirk being a ladies man before.

And it's not likely to happen any time soon, so climb back down off the "family entertainment" soapbox, if you would. You've more than made your position clear on that point already.

I HATE the idea of killing off Carol to further Kirk's story. "Lets fridge the female love interest, even if she interesting in her own right, to cause the main male character angst." That's SO ORIGINAL.

especially since they just killed off NuKirk's surrogate father figure Pike and had NuKirk actually die. I mean how much more agnst does the poor guy need.

I wouldn't mind if they went the romance route, but if they do, I expect it to be subtle and in the background.

nuTrek is already a love story between Kirk and Spock.

I do like Malaika's idea of someone (not necessarily Kirk) falling for someone really alien--and I don't mean in the Harry Kim kind of way.

Yes. Big name films (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings come to mind) film once for multiple releases, maximizing profit foremost but in doing so give us more content . This would have been a GREAT way to handle the Khan story arc, but since that's behind us, they could take any concept and flush out two or three films focusing on 1) exposition 2) rising action 3) climax/resolution.

After watching STID several times since getting the DVD, I can't help but think they were already setting us up for a budding romance between Kirk and Carol Marcus. It's subtle but if you watch their interactions closely, it can easily be inferred that they're attracted to each other. Not just the obvious times, like when she first shows up on the shuttle, or when she's half naked telling him to turn around, but at other times too. On the bridge of the Vengance, when Khan is on his rampage, Carol looks Kirk's way several times with a little more than just concern. And when they materialize in the Enterprise brig, his first action is to move to her side. And then there's the smile on is face at the end when he's welcoming her to the crew, no mistaking that Jim Kirk "I totally thing you're hot" smile. This has just been my take on it anyway.

Thoughts?

Agree. She is now "part of the family" and doesn't appear to be left behind to have a kid :)

And I guess I'm not opposed to it. I didn't have a problem with that "sexist" scene where Kirk "peeked" and caught a glimpse of her in her space underwear either. She wanted him to peek. ;)

Oh, a note...

Marcus being "part of the crew" should please all kinds of folks that have always had a problem with Uhura being the only female in the promary crew.

I would have preferred M'Ress. Not only would she have also added a female crew member to the roster, she'd also be the first full-blooded alien who's part of the Enterprise's crew that has a freaking name. Instead we just get another human crew member to help cement the Klingon's claims that Starfleet is a homo-sapians only club.

WEll, looking at the last 2 movies, those claims would not be correct.

Hell, even the Orion Slave Girls are in Star Fleet now.

well, I don't know about the writers but when it comes to what Alice Eve thinks that Carol should do, everything I've read her saying is a variation of this more recent comment:

Eve also spoke about her character’s lack of romantic times with James T. Kirk and it also appears that Eve is on the list to appear in the next Star Trek film playing Carol. Obvious I would like to have a romance with Kirk. I think being pregnant in space would also be interesting and raising a child in space, also be worth investigating. And perhaps, nobody knows who’s child it is,”

the best part is"nobody knows who’s child it is"

star trek into soap opera
:techman:

-------------------

tbh, if Kirk had to have a romantic interest I wish they kept Gaila then. She was alien, cute, funny and even if she turned a bit soap opera in the end at least it was coherent with her character. It would have been funny for Kirk to fall for a girl that was a "manizer"

The next film with be called Blame It On Risa. Spock, Uhura, Carol and Kirk on a wild vacation.
