To use a sports metaphor, they watched the highlight reel instead of reading the stats sheet?
You're probably right.I tend to think that many of us who grew up with TOS equated Kirk kissing a lot of women to being a womanizer due to our own youth and inexperience.

Probably, also the action/adventure trope of the hero getting the girl.I tend to think that many of us who grew up with TOS equated Kirk kissing a lot of women to being a womanizer due to our own youth and inexperience.

Maybe not, but if you're watching 1960s-era TV action / adventure, you may often find that preference frustrated. Is it weird when I prefer the main guy not "get the girl?"

Star Wars belongs to a different era (in more ways than one).
Depends on the story for me. In Trek, I prefer less, though that varies.Ironically something SW avoided

He was definitely a Designated Doofus, whenever the plot happened to call for it.Am I misremembering, or is Chekov a bit of a doofus?
It really depended on the plot. There were times were he filled in at Spock's science station. Other times he would quip or smirk. Other times he was romantic.Am I misremembering, or is Chekov a bit of a doofus?
I think they probably could do romance well, but that would require actually planning for it in advance, instead of randomly deciding, "I guess it's time for these two characters who have never shown much interest in each other to suddenly hook up."
Actually, now that I think about it, Staments/Culber and Burnham/Booker both work for me, probably because both relationships were obviously intended from the start.
A bit. If there is a SNW equivalent of Pavel A. Chekov it's Erica Ortegas. Although they play her for laughs differently than Chekov, usually. And she has more respect than he did.Am I misremembering, or is Chekov a bit of a doofus?
Chekov is ALL the doofus.Am I misremembering, or is Chekov a bit of a doofus?
How do you see Ortegas as equivalent? She seems far more snarky and she's a hotshot pilot. She's definitely not as naïve as Pavel sometimes was.A bit. If there is a SNW equivalent of Pavel A. I did say "if". Both of them have a bit of an "along for the ride" thing going on. Of course Pavel is also the newbie kid of the crew and Erica is not that. Thanks all for the input!
