Kirk, Blackshirt, what's that all about?

Quagmire58

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
This may be the shortest thread ever.

Wern't the Blackshirt reserved for Cadets? I thought I read that somewhere.

If so at some point in the movie he is still a cadet while on the Enterprise, and doesn't that start another canon break?

If we try really hard, it could get longer. :techman:

I gotta agree with Rear Admiral P-Knight, I'm thinkin' that most of the characters are gonna be wearin that black T underneath their uniform top.
(??Is there such a thing as a Front Admiral??)

I was freaked out by that. I think if they use that shirt all through the movie, it will ruin the image of the yellow-gold original Kirk.

The trailer includes a shot of Kirk in the gold.

Relax.

All is well.

Only the ship and bridge will look wrong for the whole movie.

Kirk's uniform will end up fine. :p

Yeah, thats good because that kirk uniform I'm getting will have been ruined if the black was the uniform.

I reckon thats just down to Pike getting injured and Kirk stealing his shirt, then running to the bridge flashing the rank stripes, strutting in front of Spock declaring he has to do eveything he says.

Spock then snaps when Kirk gives the order "You're demoted to coffee boy, get me a latte and bark like a dog!"

This leads to Spock attacking him, as seen in the trailer.

You heard it here first.

Maybe it's Abrams' version of the green casual wraparound from TOS? A leisure shirt/pullover but without the 1960s velour sensibilities?

I don't think it's simply an undershirt. The Entertainment Weekly article made a passing statment that "black is the color of space cadets in Abrams' universe" (or something to that effect), and Orci just recently coyly said that there is a reason for Kirk to be in black. People ran with that Entertainment Weekly statement to claim that Kirk is going to go directly from a green cadet to Captain, but I don't think so.

I'm not saying that he is definitely wearing black because he is a cadet, but perhaps black is the color for other positions at the Academy, such as an instructor or Officers' school.
