Kira and Dukat

The idea that out of the billions of Bajorans on the planet(s), Dukat even ever saw in his lifetime (let alone spoke with, knew, or slept with) Kira’s mom is so outlandish as to be, for the most part, only the stuff of fiction.

I hate 'Wrongs darker than death or night' for this exact reason. I think it's one of the worst episodes of DS9. For me it's the ultimate example of small universe syndrome. The episode would have worked just fine if it had turned out that Kira's mother was just a comfort woman for Cardassians, the addition of a relationship with Dukat was totally unnecessary. Kira didn't need any more reasons to hate Dukat.

I don't see how it's much of a stretch. As if Dukat didn't have heaps of Bajoran lovers. It's all part of his sick obsession with them. And he doesn't classify them as comfort women, they are all women that he thinks he loved. And he thinks they loved him.

In "Indiscretion", Kira shows that she tries to tolerate Dukat, though that is primarily for the mission. They do have a bit of banter as former adversaries, though she never lets her guard down, but she doesn't hesitate to laugh at his misfortune (even taking pleasure from the pain he is after sitting on the huge thorn). This is part of her growth of a character, having lived and worked with do-gooder Starfleet types for so long it's rubbing off on her and she is trying to make peace with her past.

During "Return to Grace", Kira's affection for Ziyal and how Dukat is changed by her presence changes Kira's impression of the man, though she still clearly dislikes him. This continues through the Dominion occupation of DS9, since Kira has become so close to Ziyal over the months prior, so this puts her in Dukat's orbit more than she'd like, and their shared guardianship of Ziyal is something they both share, but had she been given the opportunity I'm sure she would've killed him for the greater good.

Is there proof of this?

This is not the precise source, but 15 minutes in, Visitor touches on some of the same issues: she found Alaimo in makeup revolting, and resisted all his attempts to practice in order to create more depth in their relationship.

Nana is also explicitly clear about her thoughts on the matter in What We Left Behind.

This, exactly. They both cared for Ziyal and had that one positive thing connecting them.

I also find it strange that this continues to come up. There was never a single piece of dialogue that would indicate attraction on the part of Kira. There were never any longing looks or light touches on the arm. Nothing. But, people still seem to think that since a woman tolerated a man's attempts at flirtation and charm, she must harbor some attraction towards him.

It's amazing that she never broke his nose, kneecaps or neck

Never viewed it as such. I think at best the character Kira recognised that in some instances, Dukat had a (devilish, dangerous) charm about him but personally she wanted nothing to do with that, she just kept her distance in those cases.

And, in just a very few episodes, the Dukat character is played as if he is actually redeemable, and it seems Kira wants to give him that second chance to redeem himself.

But nothing beyond that.

Kira blames Dukat for a mass massacre. I don't see how she could ever forgive him for that unless she'd lost her mind... her or the writers.

I know I've posted this elsewhere, but the following video works very well...
