Kindle e-books Outselling Paperbacks

Amazon.com is now selling more Kindle books than paperback books. Since the beginning of the year, for every 100 paperback books Amazon has sold, the Company has sold 115 Kindle books. Additionally, during this same time period the Company has sold three times as many Kindle books as hardcover books. This is across Amazon.com's entire U.S. book business and includes sales of books where there is no Kindle edition. Free Kindle books are excluded and if included would make the numbers even higher.

Saving a few trees a time. ;)

Not too surprising. A bigger story would be Barnes & Noble selling more ebooks for the Nook than paper books in their stores.

Since Amazon is online-only to begin with, they'd have a much higher proportion of electronic purchases right off the bat.

More proof we are progressing to a completely digital society.

I still have yet to decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

It'll never be a completely digital society. As much as I love my Kindle, my bookshelves are pretty well-stocked. I bought some paperbacks just a few days ago.

Considering how small my living space is, and how many books I have already, maybe that's not such a bad thing.

So did I this past Christmas.

Nonsense! There must be war! Only one format can survive! ;)

No, there doesn't, although maybe the comic book industry could take a hint and switch to this new e-book format, or publishers could use hemp to print books on.

Wow... I had NO idea ebooks were actually that popular!

But here's the most important question of all; can you take a Kindle into a steamy bathtub? I read 90% of the time in the tub.

I read all the time in the jacuzzi. Just don't drop it!

I tried that for a while (in the tub)...never dropped it. I've had to return the kindle twice, though (most likely for defective screens), so I'm being extra careful with my latest one. Tub time is now limited to comic books and printed political news stories/columns...

I have a Nook, but they're essentially the same thing ... and yes. Just put it inside a gallon-size Ziploc bag and seal it, fold the end over behind the ereader, and enjoy. Even if it falls into the water, the Ziploc will keep it safe and dry. I haven't had any problems doing this with the Nook, can't imagine there would be any problems with the Kindle.

I've got a Sony. It's got a faux-leather cover on it so I feel like I always have a pretty good grip on it. I have dropped paperbacks in the tub before though. Thankfully not in a decade or so. If I dropped my Sony I would cry.
